him Barlow Ferguson and Leonard Hardy had a spirited conference with the executive at the bank yesterday on the subject of the judiciary but the nature of the same could not be learned James A Williams was at the executive oftice in the afternoon in the interest of Shepard I is believed that Lewis is out ot the race A close friend of the governor said last evening that he did not believe the executive would appoint Lewis for the reasons which have been brought to his attention and which have been stated in The Herald i e that he lacks the experience ex-perience requisite for making a good judge I is believed by many that Richard W Young is the man for the place The governor has made no statement as to tilling the vacant places on his staff as yet although i is very likely he will do so very soon a the time approaches ap-proaches when he will need them Memorial Mem-orial day I is rumored that an officer of the guard will be raised to the position of inspectorgeneral with the determined by the G A R authorities There were no orders from headquarters of the National Guard yesterday D company had a drill last evening at which the turn out was especially good and the men
