Show THE WEEK AT BINGHAM The Spanish Mine Sending Out Two Cars of Ore Daily In its weekly mining review the Bingham Bulletin says Work Is steadily progressing at the West Mountain placer and Manager Watson satisfaction with Vaton expresses satsfacton wih everything that has been done to date Wednesday afternoon when our reporter porter visited the works the pump shaft had reached 7 feet depth and was in very hard rck I is to be sunk to 150 feet Or about 15 feet below be-low what is believed to be lowest bedrock I bed-rock This will afford an ample sump into which all the subflow is to be diverted by means of a crosscut and raising The machinery of the power house In which is the pump shaft at present Includes two substantial SOhorse boilers boil-ers and ample hoisting and pumping apparatus In about two weeks the foundation will be laid for a 125horse power engine Two Cornish pumps capacity of each 750 gallons per minute min-ute will be put In the shaft and no doubt will be ample to take out all the llowage As soon as arrangements for draining drain-ing the ground are completed Manager Watson proposes to sink several working work-ing shafts from which to raise gravel for sluicing which will be done in the ordinary way Washing being thus conducted con-ducted at a number of points will employ em-ploy a large force and in July by which time the developments can be completed probably from 150 to UOO men will be at ork Some idea of the extensive operations which the company is entering upon may be gained from the fact that the ground to be drained covers the width of the I canyon from Dry Fork to Leadmill upwards of a mile and a half that i includes an old bed and the present creek bed andthat the gravel layer at bedrock is from four to eight feet deep The gravel as we have frequently stated I stat-ed has been proved by numerous tests I and the fortunes that have been taken from along the vein to be exceedingly richThe The Carr Fork road which above Cottonwood gulch has for some time been a hard proposition for an empty wagon Is now improving and in a few days with fair weather will be quite passable Pending this improvement and closing of a new smelter contract shipments of crude ore from the Highland High-land Boy are entirely suspended Considering Con-sidering the hard work performed by our oreteams with the best of roads the suspension of the Highland Boy at this particular time is a humane measure I ment meas-ure highly creditable to the manage i The big ore body lately encountered in the Spanish mine is now giving up two carloads or about 40 tons dally of ore averaging SO to 40 per cent lead This comes from the east drift Awe A-we terly drift was started recently on the same body and we are informed that from this drift several feet of sinking was done exposing an ore body seven to eight feet wide carrying 15 per cent lead Manager Clays of the Julia Dean Is feeling particularly good over the present pres-ent behavior of that property The I rich ore body lately encountered is holding its own and continuance for I some time is assured There is now a 40ton lot on the dump of higher value than any the mine has yet produced A 10th shipment will be made soon after the 10thEd Ed Talbot and Tom Stephens have taken a lease on the Julia S at the head of Carr fork and adjoining the Frisco mine They are beginning a tunnel at I the lower end line which will tap the vein 300 feet below present workings I This is the claim from which 2000 ounce ore was taken from an upper tunnel several years ago We learn that a fine body of good grade ore was uncovered In the Hooper mine as the result of developments the past winter and the product of the Last Chance mill will soon increase in value I Is at present running on a j large accumulation of low grade which I Is helm run thrnnerh to trot i out of I the way Tunnel No 6 of the Highland Boy group has been driven 640 feet and will probably reach the main vein in 40 more feet Latterly progress has been slow as It has cut through the porphyry por-phyry and is now running in very hard lime Burleys were started on Monday Mon-day however and five or six feet a day will be made The lower tupnel of the Greek group under lease to Davis Co has penetrated pene-trated 10 feet into the main vein which in workings above shows 50 feet width Seams of rich ore some several sev-eral inches wide are exposed and the leasers expect to soon encounter a large body of the same truck The week has been quiet in Bingham the mine attracting most attention being the one that destroyed the ill fated Maine The camp is a unit for exterminating the exterminators and if called upon our boys will cheerfully furnish their own lead After replacing broken machinery the Last Chance mill started Chace mi up yesterday and is now working In all its parts Having been thoroughly tested and limbered up it is now believed to be entering upon a long and successful run runA A broken cog wheel caused a stoppage stop-page at the Last Chance mill last I Friday A new wheel was ordered by telegram from the works at Houghton Hough-ton Mich and it arrived on Wednesday Wednes-day dayDay Day Co have begun sinking on a small chimney of rich ore in the Cuba the promising copper prospect above the Argonaut placer The Old Jordan mill started yesterday yester-day after a 3days shutdown caused by a broken roller shaft The Winnamuck Is raising ore of apparently excellent grade and has a number of tons on the dump Ore shipments during the past ten days have been light owing to bad roads The Amazon will be on the market with another shipment about the 10th |
