Show I j THE BANKING BILL I Serious Debate In the House Hay Bo I Precipitated Next Week Washington April iiThe I Ilnal vote upon a banking bill is likely to take I place In the house committee on banking bank-ing and currency Monday The subcommittee sub-committee which recently reported consisting of Messrs McCleary of Minnesota Min-nesota Prince of Illinois and Mitchell of New York have perfected their bill and are hopeful of its endorsement by a majority of the full committee They I have no doubt that they will in any ease secure the endorsement of the Republican Re-publican members One or two members mem-bers may vote to put the subcommittees subcommit-tees bill upon the calendar while reserving re-serving the right to offer amendments upon the floor of the house Several members of the committee like Chairman Chair-man Walker and Messrs Fowler and Hill prepared comprehensive bills be I tote the opening of the present session and haye been reluctant to abandon the result of so much careful labor Some features from nearly all of these bills has however been adopted by the subcommittee and there is strong feeling feel-ing among the Republican members that they should take action which I would bring the subject of currency reform before the house Supporters of the movement of business men which resulted in the two great conventions at Indianapolis have written here that they would bo glad to have the subcommittee sub-committee bill reported and to have a serious debate on currency reform take place in the house They believe I that such action would be an Indication I that the Republican majority was disposed dis-posed to take a step forward In currency cur-rency reform and would tend to crys talize public opinion even more strong ly than heretofore in favor of comprehensive compre-hensive action |
