Show I A BATTLE IN THE SNOW I MEETING OP MEATY WEIGHTS AT FORT DOUGLAS YESTERDAY Connelly nml halley Fight Fifteen Rounds Under London PiiKe RinK Rnles It VTns Declared u Draw SLJort1nr Xotel There was a rattling mill out at Port I Douglas yesterday afternoon i The contestants were two big uns Connelly of C company and Halley of I G company who met under London prize ring rules The battle grew out of a rivalry between the two men and the contest was simply a friendly one to determine the question of superiority superior-ity there being no purse or prize The I arrangements were made in a hurry j i and as there was no time to secure proper quarters the men met on the I snow I Now a contest between two big men is generally exciting enough to keep i the principals thoroughly warmed up I but when these men stripped walked I onto the beautiful with bare feet and felt the icy breezes from the I mountains caressing their ribs they found the job a chilly one to put it mildly II But the mill was a hot one and from the call of time in the first round i the men were kept hustling Each I weighed in at about 175 pounds and i they were evenly matched as to height and reach although Hefley was apparently appar-ently in better condition than his opponent I oppo-nent Each displayed good judgment generalship and science and at the end I of fifteen hard fought rounds the I referee decided the contest a draw owing to the unfavorable condition under which it was held They expect to meet again in the I near future and settle the question which yesterdays bout left undecided |
