| Show WILL BE HOME IN TWO MONTHS S War Department Acts Regarding Re-garding Volunteers t TRANSPORTS TO BE RUSHED TO MANILA t Arrangements For the Mustering S Out of Troops i S Demd That They Be Sent to Their Homes as Organizations Instead of Individuals Will Probably Be Acceded to Orders Have Deen Given That There Be No Delay In the Sailing of the Steamships t Washington May ISVar depart ment officials expect that within two months the Pacific transport fleet will be on its way home from Manila with the last of the volunteers The entire Pacific fleet is now being overhauled and provisioned for the voyage to Manila Ma-nila and return There will be no delay in the sailing of the ships Of the fleet of transports in the Pacific the Sherman Sher-man Grant and Sheridan are under orders for Manila and will carry regu html troops to take the place of the volunteers I vol-unteers Secretary Alger had a long confer l sl gthC I ence today with the heads of the staff bureaus of the department regarding arrangements for the return of the volunteers vol-unteers Nearly every state has requested quested that the regiments be returned to the states whence they came as the people want to see them as organiza peple a tions instead of individuals I this be decided upon while awaiting ister out they will be held in camp eUner at San Francisco or at state camps where these exist I Places of Muster Out It is expected that the Minnesota I regiment will be sent to Fort Snelllng the Oregon regiment to Vancouver barracks racks and the Washington troops to the post near Seattle I is asserted however that the soldiers prefer to be mustered out at San Francisco as they then will receive travel pay to their homes and can make transportation rates that will give them some extra money The government however has the option of transporting them to the place where it received them and may decide de-cide to follow that plan if upon further fur-ther i should be deemed feasible General Otis at Manila was notified by cable today not to send home any of the tents with which the volunteer troops in the Philippines are equipped These are new tents procured especially J for the Philippine campaign and in the interest of economy and expediency it ha been decided to keep them in the PhippIne for the benefit of the troops |
