Show IN RAILWAY CIRCLES Auditor Hills and Treasurer Van Kuran Reach Zion THE MAGNATES ARE COMING PBEST CARR AN EDWARD DICKINSON ON TH WAY Order of the Receivers for the Transfer of the Short Line Received ceived Yesterday The Latest by Wire General Railway Notes A J Van Kuran treasurer and F W Hills auditornewly appointed of the Oregon Short Line are the latest arrivals of the general headquarters staff Both of these officials came direct di-rect from Omaha where they severed their connection with the old Union Pacific Pa-cific system Mr Hills began the work of his department de-partment some two weeks since in Omaha when he separated the stockholdings stock-holdings of the Short Line from the old system and in other ways prepared for the mass of accounts which will fall under his supervision One of the auditing I aud-iting department at Omaha about 22 I employees were picked to go to the Short Line the same number that would be drooped from the Union Pacific Pa-cific pay roll by reason of the segregation segrega-tion Mr Hills will probably have as many more clerks selected at this end of the line He said last night that many of those selected from the other headquarters would leave Omaha last night Mr Van Kurans duties are such that little of interest to the public could be expected jn an interview Practically the affairs of his office will not begin to shape themselves until after the first month of the Short Lines existence Both Mr Hills and Mr Van Kuran are types of the young men in the west who hold responsible positions I is announced that President Samuel Sam-uel Carr of the Short Line and other officials of the new company were to pass through Omaha last night on their way to this city General ATnnnirpr THoVlnesrm nnr cav eral other Union Pacific officials will be here from Omaha tomorrow to attend at-tend the obsequies The formal order of the receivers of the Union Pacific relative to the segregation seg-regation were received here yesterday I mere v directs all employees of the present Union Pacific system to turnover turn-over to the new company any Short Line property in their possession at midnight on Monday ASSISTANT SURGEONS Chief Surgeon Pinkerton of the Short Line yesterday appointed Dr Union I Worthington and Dr Critchlow as assistant I as-sistant surgeons and Dr Pfoutz as oculist ocu-list Western Passenger Association P J Flynn chairman of the Colo radoUtah Passenger association will in all probability be appointed vice chairman of the Transmissouri passenger passen-ger committee of the Western association associa-tion with headquarters in Denver the intent of this action taken recently in Chicago being the transfer of executive exec-utive power to Mr Flynn who will be the direct representative of Chairman Caldwel not only in the section embraced em-braced by Utah and Colorado but pertaining taming to a local territory somewhat larger than these two states While the appointment has not yet been officially cially confirmed it is assumed By the creation of this office matters orig matIng and referring solely to western west-ern territory could be transacted here instead of being carried to Chicago for ttl m nt I For the past four years Colorado and Utah lines have operated solely upon the authority vested in them as corpo rations and without consulting any particular association and as some of the lines in the Western or Transmis souri association receive business frbm the Colorado pool it has been the source of considerable trouble in business busi-ness originating west of Denver To minimize this difficulty Colorado roads have been requested to join the asso I I elation I they do so the foregoing arrangement will serve to prevent lines I in rates Utah and Colorado from cutting Railway Notes The Ogden gateway discussions have about ended The Short Line office force will get no rest today The Short Line passenger department was kept busy yesterday receiving stationery sta-tionery and supplies General Superintendent Welby of the Western returned yesterday from several sev-eral days inspection of the line A special tourist excursion of 75 persons per-sons will arrive this morning from the east over the Western I is bound for the coast Tuesday will be a red letter day in the history of Salt Lake I will wit the commencement of the ness operation opera-tion of the Short Line as a Salt Lake system |
