Show IDAHO lAWMAKfRS ADJOURN FIFTH LEGISLATIVE SESSION LASTEJ SIXTYSEVEN DAYS Governor Vetoes the Antifusion Bill Controversy Over Deficiency Appropriations Special to The Herald Boise Ida March 7The fifth session ses-sion of the Idaho legislature adjourned tonight at 8 oclack sIne die after a Cession of sixtyseven daJsI The ending was without special incident The time agreed upon was 6 oclock but In keeP lag with timehonored custom the hands of the clock in each branch were stopped for a short period to sustain the fiction that the time agreed upon had not arrIved The evening seP0ion > was a recess for the most part During the Intermission the members engaged in animated paper pa-per ball bombardment and they played no favorites Speaker Evans was cracked several times and Mayor Alex antler poked his head through the door to witness the fun and was soaked In the ear The members quieted down a few minutes before the time for ad jourtiment arrlvid notice of which was gIven by the starting of the clock at 555 After the approval of the days journal Speaker Evans rose and amid t4esilence that was impressive addressed ad-dressed the members As I aII + about to lay down my gavel for thelast time he said I desire to I express my thanks for the courtesy shown me by the members I hope you will reach your homes In safety and receive warm welcomes from your several sev-eral constituents to whose judgments we must submit the result of our labors for approval or condemnation I Then giving the desk a resounding rap he declared the house adjourned j without day The announCement was greeted with general handchapping The members who were all ready to leove were in a fan moments out of the building Many of them took the 10 oclock train The final day was devoted largely to consideration of the deficiency appropriation appro-priation bill As passed by the house the measure carried 1940649 reDre sentlng the deficiency created during the DemocraticPopUlIst adminIstration of 18978 The senate controlled by the RepublIcan PopulIst combination amended the bill by addIng 1139819 representing the deficiencies Incurred I durIng the regime of 18967 that the last legislature refused to pay 133735 for court stenographers expenses and 12 I 000 to reimburse the contributors of the Omaha exposition fund Many members of the house Democrats and silver Republicans I Re-publicans declared they would not vote to concur ir they had to remain in session ses-sion a month longer but when the amendments came in the adjournment pressure was too great to be overcome and the amendments were concurred in without discussion and the bill was re passed and sent to the governor ANTIFUSION BILL VETOED During the day the governor sent a veto of the antifusion bill urging In support of his action that the measure attempted an abridgement of the peoples peo-ples rIghts The senate sustaIned the veto by a vote of 9 to 8 The house adopted resolutions complimentary com-plimentary to Speaker Evans DurIng the day the governor sent in the names of Thomas E Rick9 of Fremont Fre-mont I K Coston of Ada and W F Kasiska of Pocntelio to be directors of the insane asylum and they were confirmed con-firmed The house killed the senate bill for iI bQunt or a cent a pound for beet sugar by refusing to advance It under sue Jenslon I |
