Show WfSRN RULES Will GOVfRN I ROAD RACE SANCTION FROM CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION Chairman Loos Gives His Consent Two More Racing Men Join the Outlaws Salt Palace Track The question as to whether the California fornia Associated Cycling clubs woulf extend its authority over Utah racing i was finally settled last night by a telegram tele-gram which was received from William Wil-liam Loos the chairman of the racing board of the coast league The telegram tele-gram was in answer to a wire sent Tuesday night asking if the C A C C would sanction a race meet for Decoration Deco-ration day as there seemed to be some doubt a to whether or rot the C A C C cared to assume the responsibility of governing racing in this state The telegram last night read as follows Will sanction races gratefully The wording of the telegram indicates that the C A C C will not only sanction sanc-tion the races but is pleased to see Utah in line for racing reform A request was sent last night for a sanction and the men who have refused I re-fused to race under Iu A W rules will have an opportunity of racing if Papa Smith will accept the sanction offered In view of the attitude of Chairman Loos there is now no obstacle in the way of a successful meet on Decoration I day and as Smith has said that he wants racing under the rules that are approved by the majority he will probably i prob-ably pull off the races under the sanc r i Ion of the western association Ted Caine who has been quoted as I one of those who would not ride under any rules but those of the L A W I stated that he was with the majority i but expressed his doubts as to the ability abil-ity of the local racing men to obtain C A C C sanction He is distinctly in favor of L A W control but stated i acsn yesterday that in I case races were held under the sanction of the coast league that he would ride If the balance of the riders entered F A Mantjum and Ross Wells joined the ranks of the outlaws yesterday and signed with the other fast ones in a positive declaration that they would not compete at L A W races I is probable that the few who are on the outside will lose no time in coming In out of the wet ilangum rode in a tandem race last year with Bywater and the team won with hands down Mangum Is an amateur and a good man at short distances Ross Wells rode in California last year and won two races and Is looked on as a dangerous competitor com-petitor for the fastest riders this year Salt Palace Track Cap Angel has consented to give his assistance in planning the Salt PaLace Pal-ace track and has gotten up the preliminary pre-liminary sketches Angel was the designer de-signer of the old fivelap track at Tenth South and every rider who has ridden on that famous old course will testify that i was one of the fastest tracks of the size in the country at the time it was built Angel in addition to being an experienced architect is an exracing man and this fact is of great assistance In building a track that will meet the peculiarities required in making mak-ing turns and bankings that will admit of the utmost speed on all the curves I The preliminary plans were placed in I the hands of Architect Klettlng and rkhi1 I it sa work will gr on the final plans at Ion I-on I Lawyer Gunn and Sharman were down on the Calder park track last night working out A number of the men are working out at Liberty park and the bunch is fact rounding into shape Tod Caine has not commenced training yet as he requires very little work to get into condition He will not 20th begin his track work until about the 20thAbout About 200 invitations have been sent out to wheelmen to attend the second annual reception tendered by the Social So-cial Wheel club to Salt Lake wheelmen tonight The programme will consist of music and refreshments will be served Dancing may be indulged In later In the evening The reception will be held in the clubrooms in Fords hotel on I I First South street |
