Show GEARY WILL FIGIIT IT Ho Does Not LIke Some of the Provisions of tho Everett Bill1 WASHINGTON Sept 15The action of the subcommittee on foreign affairs last night refusing to accept Gearys amendment amend-ment providing for an absolute means of identification by photographing or otherwise in order to prevent the use of Chinese register certificates by others resulted re-sulted in the decision that the Pacific coast members led by Geary and White will fight the bill tooth and nail It ap pears although this identification provision provi-sion is deemed essential the Everett bill for the extension of the time of registration regis-tration that there are underlying and private reasons for the determination to fight tho extension measure as there is a fear that the new law will be again carried car-ried to the supreme court This would reopen the whole question and might result in a decision by the supreme court that the Geary law was unconstitutional The decisipnby which its constitutionality is upheld was only rendered by a majority of one in the supreme court Justice Harlan being a sent He is now here and it is feared that in case the matter should again come before the court the former decision would be reversed Geary declares while it may be impossible to defeat the Everett bill in case the committee on rules brings i in in order it can be defeated de-feated in the Senate |
