Show TIlE FASHIONS Brown and Green Black and White the Combinations Hats and Bonnets As seemed probable when the decrees de-crees of fashion for the autumn were but feebly indicated a peculiar and most becoming shade of brown quite a dead leaf tone is in high favor so much so that the lords of creation are adopting it for ties Next in order comes a green which is distinctly autumnal in character being of sycamore syca-more foliage tint touched strongly with the gold that appears before decay de-cay One charming dress which is among the models of an English mo diste whose taste is Infalliblefchas the skirt of hopsack of this curious but fascinating shade It is beautifully cut and hangs without a fault About a finger length above the hem is a deep Vandyke trimming formed of three broad bands of black watered silk ribbon put on in quite a new way which is fashions up to date mark The bodice is entirely black moire antique with sleeves of the autumnal green hop sack The bodice is made with deep bands of thick rich looking ivory tinted guipure lace treated in a way which accentuates all the best points in a good figure and imparts a look of height After brown and green the most stylish dresses are black and white while black is also most effectively effec-tively combined with the two leading hues for the autumn With this contrast con-trast of black and white hard lines are carefully avoided To be successful success-ful it must not be blended with the black as it were either by close braiding or by jetted embroidery OP by black lace If the thing Is well and carefully done the effect is wonderful won-derful A skirt which is being built I for a woman who delights in exploiting exploit-ing the newest fashions is of white cloth to below the knees whence it is of white cloth which is braided I braid-ed over ir a graceful branching branch-ing I tapering design and which looks so smart and handsome that only a close inspection reveals exactly what it is There is round the shoulders a pleated collar not very deep and not in any way clumsy This is of white cloth braided braid-ed with black and is finished with a narrow jetted and steel sequin fringe In almost all instances where quiet hued gowns are worn some touches of brilliant color are applied either in hat bonnet collar or cuffs The vivid hue is not a blare not even a chord it is merely a high note in harmony with the deeper tones of the costume Thus with a dead leaf brown dress of miroir velvet and cloth the skirt having graduated box pleats of velvet down I the seams the end of each box pleat finished with a row of sabletailsand the 1 bodice made with bands of velvet coming over the shoulders in such length as to form a kind of yoke each band finished with sable tails there is a entirely of sable with high mercury wings of rose leaf velvet vel-vet and sable tails at either side The costume is essentially smart and will be worn with much success at a very interesting wedding Some of these are very elegant i S Bonnets are very pretty and for the most part mediaeval in shape One lovely little arrangement was like a Norsemans headpiece in glittering bullion bul-lion having
