the Rio Grande Western depot just before 8 oclock last evening William Barnes and William R Payne were returning home from Salt Lake in a wagon and when they reached the scene of the accident the team turned suddenly throwing Mr Barnes out He struck on his head and his neck was broken It is supposed that death was instantaneous instan-taneous as he never spoke after the accident Mr Barnes was one of the early settlers set-tlers of Kaysville and was over 74 years of age He leaves a large family who have the sincere sympathy of the community commu-nity nltThe The funeral services will be held in president and trustees we had a Citizens and a Republican ticket in the field The Republicans set out to win and finally did so after hard struggle Last fall SaUna gave Cannon i Can-non over twenty candidate for the legislature I entered into an agreement with the Liberals of Sevier county by which II he was to oppose statehood in the leg islature There was evidently an understanding i un-derstanding between them because 1 when Clark was nominated they swore vengeance against him for past wrong i doing in this county but after the i agreement spoken of was made oil was poured on the troubled waters they hid up his infirmities and stood to his back almost to a man We shall see what the man from Sevier will do If he does not fight statehood we will be agreeably surprised H N Hayes of Salina a bright young Democrat and a leading educator of Sevier county has again been elected county superintendent of schools over Bishop Horn of Richfield Gerry S Gates one of our leading and best ctizens died n the second inst of typhoid pneumonia He was highly respected by all who knew him and will certainly be missed in the community He leaves a wife and three children Stella 15 year old daughter of Het tie Allred died here this morning of heart trouble Mrs Allred is a widow with a large family Our district school has not begun as yet owing to the delay of the heaters heat-ers which arrived a few days ago and will be put in place this week ready for school next week Wa have the finest school house in Southern Utah and we are proud of it Sevier county Republicans had a grand rally at Richfield last Saturday night The Salt Lake Tribune telegraphed Salina Liberals that the Mormon party had been victorious in the city election After nominating F G Willis in I open caucus for
