Show I I MERCHANTS ORGANIZE The Credit System Regulated by a Protective Pro-tective Association Delinquent Debtors Are to Be Listed and the lrQrc ants ATill Kef use Them Credit The Organization Perfected A number of the representative business I busi-ness men of Salt Lake held another meeting meet-ing at Spencer Lynchs store last evening I even-ing and perfected an organization which I they are confident will do much toward correcting the credit evil as it has existed ex-isted in this city for years The meeting was called to order by J D Spencer and in the absence of the regular reg-ular secretary A S Geddes was elected to fill that position The first business in order was the report re-port of the committee selected at the last meeting to draft a constitution for the organization or-ganization to be effected A PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION Fred Simon in behalf of the committee commit-tee presented the constitution for the organization or-ganization to be known as the Merchants Protective association of Salt Lake city which read as follows I shell be the object of this association to facilitate the collection of just accounts of the members thereof and to furnish to each member mem-ber a complete list of delinquent debtors The officers of the association shall be president pres-ident vice president secretary and executive committee of five including the president I shall bo the duty of the president to preside pre-side at ajl of the meetings of this association and to call meetings as often as necessity may require the duties of the vicepresident shall I be to fulfill the duties of the president in the latters absence It shall be the duty of the secretary to keep accurate minutes or the meetings of this association asso-ciation It shall be the duty ot the executive committee com-mittee to meet at least once a month for the purpose of judging the punishment to be imposed im-posed upon the members found delinquent in conforming to the articles of association rules and bylaws adopted by this organization The punishment to be inflicted may consist in suspending or fining the members and in case of sufficient serious offense expulsion but that no member shall be expelled without first haying hay-ing received a hearing at a meeting of the members to be calledand that it shall require a twothirds of at least twentyfive members present to expel a member DELINQUENT DEBTORS I shall be the duty of the attorney to keep a correct list of debtors who shall be delinquent delin-quent a hereinafter provided Upon receiving receiv-ing from any member notice that his debtor for merchandise sold In the regular course of trade is delinquent in the payment of his just amount the attorney shall send to said debtor I I a polite notice of said indebtedness I said debt is not paid within a period of ten days I I thereafter the attorney shall send a second notice and request immediate payment I said I I indebtedness remains unpaid for a period of ten I days thereafter the attorney shall send 1 third notice that if said indebtedneesis not paid within with-in a period of ten days thereafter the attorney will send his name as a delinquent debtor to each member of this association and that hereafter no credit will be extended him by any members of this association The said debt remaining unpaid pursuant to the foregoing fore-going notices the attorney shall thereupon transmit the name of the delinquent debtor to each member of this association between the 1st and 10th of each mouth o The terms of office of the officers and members mem-bers of the committee shall be for a period of six months from date of this organization and said officers and members shall continue serve and fulfill the several duties of their offices until their successors shall be properly elected at the next semiannual meeting to be held on the I I second Monday in JulyNjf this year All Individuals companies and corporations who carry on the business of a merchant in Salt Lake city shall be eligible to membership in this association When any debtor shall pay his debts pursuant to any notice as hcrejabpforo provided it shall be the duty of the member whom payment is made to send notice of that fact to the attorney in order to stop furthernotice to the debtor MUST PUT THEM ON THE LJT I shall be the duty of each member of this association to keep a book upon which he shall enter the names or delinquent debtors as he receives re-ceives the same from tire attorney I shall be the duty of each member of this association to withhold credit from each and every individual company or corporation whose name shall bo held on the list of delinquent debtors so long as ha may remain delinquent provided however that any member may at his tat option pay the debt of any delinquent debtor and thereafter extend Credit so I id debtor PENA lute VIODAT W Whenever tho attorney shall receive satisfactory satis-factory evidence of the violation of this section by any member it shall be his duty to withhold thereafter from said member the list of delta quent debtors and all benefits or services of this association and that he shall report the name of such member to the executive committee commit-tee Each member of this association shall pay to the attorney of this association in advance SI per month for each month of his membership and the further sum of 1 per cent on all monies paid by debtors in per anoe of any notice from I attorney which shall be the compensation of the attorney for the duties herein imp sed and the failure to conform to the requirements of this section shall be deemed n withdrawal from the association on the part of such member The constitutionwaa then taken up by sections and passed OFFICERS ELECTED Next in order was the election of officers and the f lowing gentlemen were chosen to administrate the affairs of the new organization or-ganization for the next six months J D Spencer president A Roundy vice president H T Ball Secretary J W Judd attorney executive committee J D Spencer Fred Simon E O Coffin S H Hill and H A Fyler TH MEMBERSHIP The organization starts out with the decided for the merchants to meet upon the evening even-ing of the second Monday of each month I at the chamber of commerce to indulge in I business talks beneficial to their interests I I I was then moved and carried that a 1 committee of five be appointed to wait upon the merchants and lay before them I I the benefits of the association for the purpose pur-pose of getting them to add their names
