Show CONTEST IN WYOMING The Fire Populist Candidates ibid I the Balance of Power I Overtures Made Them by the Republicans Are Rejected They Will Aid the Democrats Dem-ocrats in Organizing legislature CHEYENNE Wyo Jan 9Tonight the five Populist members of the legislature legisla-ture which convenes tomorrow are the most important men in Wyoming They hold the balance of power in the lower house and in the joint session which will elect a United States senator The man who wins will have to have all of their votes Today a delegation from the Republicans Republi-cans offered the Populists all of the offices of the house and the selection of the president pres-ident of the senate i they would come into the Republican ranks in the matter of organization alone This offer however was declined and at 10 oclock this evening a committee of Democrats and Populists will select offi ors for the house William Taylor a I Populist member from Albany county will be speaker i he wants the place The senatorial fight is protesting with vigor Senator Warren professes t still have hopes success and says victory has often been won with heavier adverse odds than now present themselves A L New i leading in the race on the Democratic i side He has his own county delegation which is more than any other candidate can say ExGovernor Baxter is next t New and has more missionaries at work I than any other candidate While not making a high showing at the present time Judge Corn W H Holliday and A C Beckwith will eventually eventu-ally take the lead and of these nestors is likely to go one of them as the best representative repre-sentative of Wyoming Democracy |
