Show MANGE AND llMGed Lead Remains Stationary But Silver Declines NEWS FROl MANY UTAH MIES The Big Gold Strike in the DaltonThe Stock Exchange and the Building Boom Business Items Generally The week Just passed has been a busy one with our merchants especially so with those who have been using the columns of THE HERALD to make their announcements to the great public The big bargains offered have induced big purchases and L both buyer and seller seem satisfied Good weather has prevailed in the various vari-ous mining camps and the effect of this will soon be noticeable in the increased ore shipments Many a ton oE the precious rock that has either been stacked on the dumps or stored in the ore houses awaiting shipment will find its way into the market here and elsewhere Reports from nearly all the mining camps received during the week are of a most encouraging nature The Deep Creek bubble as some tenderfeet ten-derfeet call it has not yet busted by any manner of means There are those who bring in very discouraging reports it is true and these are snapped up with avidity by the mining town organs As a rule however the parties who return with doleful tales are those who should never have started out on such a trip and who went unprepared to tackle tbe hardships that must accrue to a journey of 20 miles across an uninviting country The policy of the Tintic and Park City papers in attempting to decry and belittle the importance im-portance of the Deep Creek country is a mistaken one and unworthy the gentlemen at the head of those sheets I there is anything in the Deep Creek country and there is sufficient evidence at hand to prove It why should it not be developed de-veloped The development of Deep Creek cannot affect either Tintic or Park City both being well established camps of world wide reputation and as solid as the mountains surrounding them There is no reason why those papers should show such a hostile attitude over the attempted mineral development of other portions of the territory Business on change has been very fair during the week although it was cut short by the semiholiday of yesterday The real estate market is fair only Lead and Silver Lead has been stationery throughout the week I opened at 420 and closed at that figure last evening Silver showed a downward tendency opening at J9 and closing at 9S The Dalton Several more specimens of ore from the Dalton mine at Marysvale reached this city yesterday and were on exhibition to 1 admiring throngs during the afternoon The ore 1 very rich going as high as SIOOUO to the ton and it is said there are some samples among the lot that will go as high as 20000 The Buckhotn The Deep Creek country continues to attract at-tract attention Sam Gilsons latest shipment ship-ment from Dupway consisted of nine S tons The samples were in the hands of the assayer yesterday but the results had not been announced late last evening An effort should be made to have Gilson incorporate incor-porate the Buckhorn and list it on the mining exchange The stock would soon be in big demand Trade in the East Business in New York large in volume and sustained by general confidence as tithe ti-the future It is an encouraging ann that the market forbreadstuffs has an-n and nat is nearly 6 cents per bushel lower than a week ago oats 2 cents and corn 1J < cents lower The failure and disappearance dis-appearance of the most conspicuous trader at Chicago makes it probable that the market mar-ket may hereafter represent more nearly the legitimate trade Wheat and flour exports ex-ports from Atlantic ports continue far behind be-hind those of last year and while reports of foreign crop prospects are not favorable there Is really no reason to anticipate any shortage cr unusual demand from abroad prior to the close of the current crop year The possible demand next year has to meet it an exceptionally favorable crop outlook The reports of trade at other cities are on the whole more favorable than a week ago Boston finds general business better though the sales of wool are comparatively small Milder weather has helped retail trade nnr i Thilo the leather trade is quiet boot and shoe jobbers receive more encouraging reports ports and hope for an active fall demand At Pittsburgh the glass business is active and Bessemer iron Is50 cents higher The Cleveland market is active but money is in good demand and at Detroit the manufacturing manu-facturing interests are sustained by a strong demand At Cincinnati the dry goods season has been brisk and collections are about as usual At Chicago flour receipts re-ceipts are smaller than a year ago aud grain receipts about the same but increase appears in cured meats lard butter dressed beef ana about33 per cent in wool Sales of dry goods are at least equal to last years with very satisfactory payments in that branch in shoes and in clothing Trade at other western and southern points seems to be especially encouraging this week Better weather helps at almost all western points and at Milwaukee trade a never better at Omaha and St Paul very fair at Minneapolis flour is dull but the lumber trade is active and at Omaha fair weather helps business Trade is quiet at Kansas Ciiy but improving at Louisville Nashville and Atlanta with decided de-cided strength at S1 Louis though for the week barely fair at New Orleans The great industries are i better shape I is a hopeful sign that notwithstanding the addition of many furnaces which have been idle for a month or two the price of pig iron is fairly well sustained and the demand de-mand for finished products of iron and steel Is more encouraging The woolen i manufacture manu-facture still hesitates apparently because the producers are inclined to ask higher prices for the now clip of wool than manufacturers manu-facturers can pay but there is a belief that the consuming demand for goods must be as large a it ever has been in any previous year and the clothiers though very cautious cau-tious hitherto begin t act upon that belief be-lief The shoe trade is still retarded by the uncertainty as t prices for tho future but is nevertheless fairly active The business failures occurring throughout through-out the country during the last seven days as reported t R G Dun Co number for the UnIted States 228 and for Canada 27 a total of 255 as compared with a total of 247 last week and 251 the week previcus tote to-te last For the corresponding week of last year the figures were 211 representing represent-ing 8 failures in the United States and 26 i the Dominion of Canada SEWS FROM THE MINES RThe ere shipments for tho week were scarcely what was expected The old timers are producing regularly and several new ones have
