Show In AYjomine A Leader correspondent writes from Gold Hill under the date of August 2 as follows t This month opens for a better prospect for the camp than ever before The miners I r are hard At work sinking on their claims and showing them up to the best advantage i advan-tage New buildings are going up all over the camp and by the end of this month it will be impossible for persons coming hereto here-to say there has been no work done 1 The first party from Rawlins were here a short time ago and were here two days They were Hon J C Dyer Willis Rankin Ran-kin C Schuyler Mrs Smith Misa Lizzie Rankin and Miss Jennie Rankin these la 4N being the first from Rawlins to visit a r l 9 l s our camp Mr Dyer organized a party and came prepared to stay some time He has business interests here and was so well pleased with the outlook that he at once ordered lumber and has commenced to build a new place for his saloon At Gold City several new buildings are in process of erection J S Burman is now occupying his new saloon Ben Hoffman will soon move into his new boarding house Roberts d co will soon be in their new building Wood Arendell Co will start their arasta this week Shaft No 2 on the Acme is down twenty feet and shows very fine ore By the middle mid-dle of the month this shaft will be down fifty feet when tne company will begjn to I take out ore as fast as possible Work will begin on the Wyoming this week and two tons of ore will be gotten out for shipment ship-ment I CoL S W Downy was in camp last week This is his first visit since last November I No-vember and he is very much surprised at the amount of work that has been done since he was here He says that ho does t not see how a man can come into the ca up and look it over and then say consistently I that there is nothing here From what j I the colonel has seen he says it it wonder I Iful I Colonel Downey also thinks that a mill should at once be brought into the I camp and the miners say they will contract to furnish ore for a ten stamp mill for six months I I XOTIS I A man has beep arrested at Rawlins I I charged with being implicated in the robbery rob-bery of a stage near Percy in ISiS His name is J R Thomas and there is reason I to believe he will be identified Six men are at work on the placer ground located at the head of Jack creek a few weeks aco by Jim Rankin of Rawlins 1 and a Nebraska company Ed Stanl of I Cheyenne went up there last week to survey I sur-vey the claims and run out lines for the permanent and temporary ditches now building It will take him a week longer to finish the surveys A drain ditch is being run that it is expected will strike bed rock at a depth of twenty to thirty feet and at a distance of about one hundred and I I twentyfive yards up the gulch from where a pit is to be dug Then the dirt will be run through sluice boxes sufficient water and fall being furnished from the temporary ditch They expect to make a good cleanup clean-up this season in this way Preparations will also be made for extensive operations next Sun year when a hydraulic will be put in I An outfit passed through town on Friday Fri-day for the Big Horn mountains well equipped for prospecting Two men formed the party and they will be joined by two others at Douglas The leader of the expedition told an interesting story and the sequel may be looked for with I equal interest Years ago he was stationed sta-tioned at Washakie as a soldier He was an expert hunter and was frequently detailed de-tailed on hunting expeditions to help supply sup-ply the fort with game On one of these trips he found some pieces of ore Ho was ignorant of the value of his find but when passing through Cneyenne shortly afterwards I after-wards he sold two pieces to Joslin S Park I the jewelers for X15 The recent flurry in raiding has recalled the matter vividly to him and ho has secured the aid of several wellto do friends who have provided the outfit with money to make the search for the ledge where he secured the ore Notwithstanding Not-withstanding the years that have passed the exsoldier thinks he can go directly to the mine and is sure he will have a bonanza for himself and friends Leader |
