Show MAJfUTACTURE OF CLOTHING What the Projectors of a Now Industry Proposo to Do In the train of the copper plant comes other industries It has had a wonderfully I wonder-fully enlivening effect upon all classes of business and will probably have still more before the swson is over About two weeks ago mention of which was made in THE HERALD at the time the Utah Clothing Manufacturing company was incorporate with D L Ross H P Burt W E Hubbard and D E Williamson ad inco ° porators At a subsequent meeting D L Ross was made president and H P Burt secretary secre-tary This institution is an enlargement of the Empire Manufacturing company now located at 34 RIchards street The present quarters are tobe increased by cutting an arch into the adjoining rom on the north extending the building to the rear thirty feet and as Mr Burt expressed U going just as high in the air as we want The company now has eleven machines and these will be increased to twenty as a n L ft J by starter all of which will be operated electric power In the neighborhood of 100 people are to be employed onethird of whom will be men A sufficient number num-ber of competent cutters will be engaged to turn out the work and these will be increased as the business enlarges Mr Burt the secretary said yesterday We shall confine ourselves at first to the medium grades of clothing and all our product as nearly as is possible will be the result of Utah manufacture Of course the trimming we will be compelled com-pelled to purchase abroad as they are not manufactured here We propose as far as it is possible to make it a Utah factory fac-tory operated by Utah people We cant compete with tin east in the cheapest and finest grades of goods because be-cause we cant get the cloth Goods that I I retail for from 1250 to x20 we can manufacture < manu-facture at a profit and compete with the eastern product but above and below these figures we cannot As soon as we get thoroughly started we will ship in the other class of goods in piece and have them manufactured here H We are now making preparations to send a man on the road and will have others out as early as possible Electricity Elec-tricity will be used as power at all events until we have 100 machines in operation op-eration and when we shall have attained this point it will be a remarkable industry indus-try in Utah In addition to the custom clothing shirts and woolen underwear will also be made and we will guarantee to turn out as good a product as can be produced in the world We are going into this purely as a business proposition and believe it can be made to pay If the stockholders did not think so they would not risk their money The company has a capital stock of 100000 and over one third of the shares are now sold As soon as a few formalities formal-ities are attended to in the way of business busi-ness the process for enlargement will commence |
