session President Presi-dent Nelson presided and all members were present except Toronto Business as follows was transacted DECLINED Professor J T Kingsbury notified the board that as he expected to be absent < from the city he could not accept ac-cept the position of examiner I Filed dIN IN FAVOR OF MISS FRYE Olive Lister and eighty other pupils of the high school petitioned the board that Miss Frye be retained as one of the corps of teachers next year FiledWOULD WOULD BE JANITORS Thomas H Jenkins and J F Rankin Ran-kin made application for positions as janitors Committee on furniture and supplies HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Miss May Berkley recommended by about thirty citizens made application for a position as teacher Committee on teachers and school work WANT TO TEACH The following made of whom are residents resi-dents of Salt Lake except those otherwise other-wise marked Committee on teachers and sdhoolwork DR UTTER Dr Utter is an applicant for a position posi-tion as teacher He is a well known citizen and of literary proclivities His application and statement of qualifications reads as follows Gentlemen desire a position as teacher in the public schools of this city My experience as a teacher amounts to about three years in all For two years afterwards I was a member of the board of education of Olympia Washington during which I time the schools were graded I believe be-lieve I am competent to take the position posi-tion of principal in one of our schools and if there is to be a vacancy of such place for the coming year I would be i gladto take the place lateral on B street to I the Lowell school and that the total I amount paid by the board was 2475 the actual cost as reported by the auditor au-ditor Is 139920 leaving 107550 as returned I re-turned to the board The committee recommended that the warrint be turned over to the treasurer Adopted ADDITIONAL ROOMS The same committee reported that it lha secured an offer from J S Richards Rich-ards of rooms 32and 34 on Richards avenue for a term of ten months commencing com-mencing Sept 1 1S94 at the rate of 25 per month each In addition the leasor proposes to give to the board the use of the vacant lot hetwsan said rooms and the high school building without charge unless it should be I necessary for him to build thEreon The committee rerommen led that the offer be accepted and the lease executed ex-ecuted Adopted SCHOOL SITE OFFERED G D Amos offered the i ard a school site in North Salt Lake Described as follows Commencing at the northeast corner of the northwest luirtar cf then the-n quarter of section 26 township town-ship 1 north range 1 west and thence rnge running south 10 rods thence west 10 rods thence north 10 rods thence east 10 rods to the place of beginning for the sum of 630 Committee on sites and buildings SEMIMONTHLY ESTIMATES I The commit e on sites and buildings recommended that owing to the stringency strin-gency of the times Tuddenham Brain bhe contractors for the Oquirrh school receive estimates upon the work performed and the material placed in the building on the 191 and 15th of each calendar month Adop I ted 0 NEW TEACHERS The committee on teaciiters and schoolwork school-work called attention to the rcnac ceptance of Mr J T Kingsbury of the position of examiner to which he had been elected and recommended that Professor George Marshall be appointed I appoint-ed in his place Also that Elizabeth I Fritz be appointed as principal of the Bryant school at the schedule salary Also the eleotlon of A F Andrews us I teacher of biological sciences in the high school at the schedule salary and j of Mr Orcult Cross to a position in the grades at the salary of 35SJ50 per month Adopted LITIGATION ENDED Tilts committee on finance reported that they had audited the vouchers in the case of tne board of education vs the Salt Lake Pressed Brick company et al fr 702667 balance due on contract for erection of Uic Washington Washing-ton school payable to D C Dunbar as clerk of the Third district court under advice of the attorney of the board 1 The committee recommended that as j I it was the opinion of the attorney that the pate had ligitated their rights to the money the same be paid over Adapted RECONSIDERED Dooly moved that the resolution offered of-fered by Mr Hanssn and passed at the previous meeting of the board providing provid-ing for the purchase of the site offered by G WD Amos in North Salt Lake be reconsidered Carried ANOTHER SITE ADOPTED The committee on sites and buildings build-ings reported that it two was on occasions sions visited North Salt Lake for the I purpose of selecting a school site centrally cen-trally located During the winter months the attendance at the Folsom I school was 13 pupils from north of tie brick yard 4 from the copper plant IS I from iNforth Salt Lake and 32 from Superior Su-perior addition At present there are 1 from North Salt Lake 4 from the copper plant 8 north of the meeting I hoe and 34 from Superior addition I The following propositions were I rnade to the committee O W Brown I proposes to 5 < 1 a lot 55x140 together i with a twostory brick and stone building build-ing thereon 25x50 feet for 2000 or i would rent the same at 20 par month G W Amos a lot south and east or 1 f > < f < > r Superior addition 165 feet front and 165 feet deep for 530 W H Folsom one acre on old brickyard brick-yard site 10x16 rods for 800 Same with a twentyfoot alley on the eastside east-side 850 W H F lsom also offers one acre south of the Twentythird ward meetinghouse meet-inghouse 10x16 rods for 800 The committee recommended that the last named be accepted provided that the said W H Folsom will con tinue Cleveland avenue south to intersect inter-sect
