Show St Davids Day at ViIlnril Millard City March 2aint Davids day was royally celebrated at Willard on March 1 by the Welsh people of Box Elder county and a few outside visitors visi-tors who assembled in the commodious commodi-ous meeting house Two sessions were held one commencing at 1 a m and the other at 330 p m The house was crowded at both meetings by happy and enthusiastic Cymry and their friends who had met to renew old acquaintances ac-quaintances and form new ones and in the good old way celebrate in honor of their patron Saint David Many representative Welshmen and their ladies had gathered from this city Ogden Cache valley Malad and I other places to assist their friends in celebrating the day among whom were Bishop Henry Hughes of Mendon Bishop Thomas Davis of Malad D L Davis and W N Williams of this city A number of prominent Welshmen Welsh-men throughout the territory sent their regrets for not being able to attend at-tend President Rudge Clawson of the Box Elder stake was present and in the course of his remarks claimed with nrie to be of Welsh extraction There was an excellent and well rendered ren-dered programme which consisted of speeches songs recitations dialogues ete and ended with the ever popular Welsh national air Hen Wiad fy Whadan All presnt fully entered into in-to the spirit of the occasion and enjoyed en-joyed themselves as Welshmen only can The veteran pioneer of Willard Father Titue jDavis was chairman This good old Cymro is 88 years of age and it wag a treat to see how well he enjoyed the exercises and to hear him such a happy mood sing an old familiar famil-iar Welsh song The success of the reunion was mainly main-ly due to the efforts of Mr John L Edwards of Willard and Mr Lewis of Brigham city The Welsh people have celebrated Saint Davids day for hundreds of years and they respect Saint David as an honest and devout Christian and a man of superior abilIty abil-ity and classic education He was the possessor of large means and used his wealth for the comfort of the poor and devoted his time and ability in the in krest of Christianity He was born n Pembrokeshire South Wales in the fifth century coming from royal blood on both sides Historians trace his genealogy back through seventeen generations gen-erations Saint David was in every way a great man and one of whom any nation might bo proud |
