Show STAKE CONFERENCE THE PROCEEDINGS AT THE AS SEJIlLY HALL YESTERDAY The Reports Received Were of an i Encouraging Nature Addresses by Elder Lorenzo Siiow and Otli II erH I Yesterday was the second day of the semiannual l conference of the Salt Lake stake At the morning session in the Assembly hal Elder Angus Mt Cannon presided I The congregation and choir sang the hymn Now Let Us Rejoice etc Prayer by Elder Edward Stevenson The choir sang the hymn Softly Beams the Sacred Dawning etc Elder Thomas Wale of the Eighteenth I Eigh-teenth Elder Samuel Holmes of the I Seventh Elder Horace Eldredge of the Seventeenth Elder William Gedge of the Twentieth Elder Thomas Sutherland Suther-land of the TwentyFirst Elder George Sairlle of the Thirteenth quorum of I elders represented these organizations In general the reports were of an encouraging en-couraging nature The following bishops spoke of the condition of the people in their respective respec-tive branches of the church Joseph S Rawlins of South Cottonwood Albert Al-bert W Davis of Center Weld Elijah iF Sheets of the Eighth ward Samuel A Woolley of the Ninth ward J A Hamilton of Mill Creek The people I seem to be doing their duty even better than in preceeding years I The qhoir sang the anthem LookUp Look-Up and Put Your Trust In God Benediction by Elder Joseph E Tay 10 I The choir sang Come Dearest Lord Prayer by Elder E B Tripp The choir again sang Earth with Her Ten Thousand Flowers The following bishops reported the condition of their wards H B Claw son of the Twelfth Robert Morris of the Elevnth Adam Spiers of the Tenth Nelson A Empey of the Thirteenth Elder Elias Morris reported favorably favora-bly the condition of the high priests quorum of the stake Elder Lorenzo Snow addressed the congegator The office of bishop affords af-fords an excellent opportunity for the occupant to study human nature and the operations of the spirit of God When one accepts this office he must work for the interests of those over whom he presides I Is a good thing to be a bishop if the occupant of this Office attempts to do a God directs him He must be patient but firm must work with love and determination determina-tion There are some men who do not know how to apologize Some of our best men are in this condition I is an excellent trait to know how to ask forgiveness of one when we have injured in-jured him When one has done wrong and is willing to make acknowledgement acknowledge-ment of his wrong he is alright and we ought to forgive him The spirit of the Lord cannot occupy a heart that is full of revenge The speaker referred to the work done in the Salt Lake temple There are about twentyfive sisters and the same number of brethren whose whole time is gratuitously given to this work The spirit of God is bountifully poured pour-ed out in this sacred edifice There are many who have been prayed for in the temple and marvelous results have often followed The time will come when the whole of Satans influence will be withdrawn from those who have kept their estate The love of God is great towards us it is Impossible for man to measure the greatness of His love The choir sang the anthem Light and Truth Benediction was pronounced by Elder TVilllam Draper EVENING SESSION Singing by the choir Another Day Has Sped and Gone Prayer by Elder F B Woodbury The choir again saner Great God Indulge In-dulge My Humble Claim Elder Thomas Gerrard of the Third quorum of elders Elder Levi Richards Rich-ards of the Tenth quorum of elders reported the condition of those under I their charge The following bishops represented the condition of their wards Alfred Solomon of the Twentysecond Isaac Barton of the Nineteenth Robert I Danzie of the Herriman ward Alva Butler of the Granite ward James Jensen of Sandy George R Jones of the Twentythird I Elder Heber J Grant addressed the meeting He expressed himself as pleased with the reports made The only way we can secure exaltation is by laboring with all diligence to do our duties There Is more faith among the people since the dedication of the temple than there was before that time The people of the world are more friendly towards us still we must always expect opposition The visit of the choir to the fair has been one of the most potent factors in allaying al-laying the prejudice of the world The time is coming when the rich the noble and the educated will embrace em-brace the gospel as well as the poor With the light of the Spirit of God to guide us we may go on in other work in studying science literature and art and there will be no fear of making shipwreck of our faith The congregation and choir sang the Doxology and benediction was pronounced pro-nounced by Elder William Binder |
