Show A eUNVERTEU STAltiSllAN SENATOR HOAR now traveling in Europe writes a letter to a priest in Massachusetts expressing solicitude the cause of Home Rule in Ireland and urging IrishAmeri cans to aid Irish representatives in parliament parlia-ment Wo can all applaud the senator for his espousal of the good cause and can hope that his efforts In behalf of the misgoverned and oppressed inhabitants of the Green Isle will prove effective Indeed wo are proud that the Massachusetts statesman is abroad advocating tho American principle of government gov-ernment for Home Rule is American through and through Another reason why we aro pleased is tho suggestion that perhaps the senators conversion to tho justice of Home Rule for the Irish may incline him to the idea that Home Rule might with propriety be granted to Americans In Utah there are a quarter of a million people who have been and aro pleading for Home Rule ES a matter of right and justice and it ha so happenCd that Senator HOAU has been one of the most earnest of those opposed to tho proposition The mere suggestion of the thing bas aroused all tho antagonism in his nature and brought out all the fight in him Possibly there has been a man in Congress who has labored more industriously industri-ously than ho to prevent Homo Rule coming to the people of Utah but if so his name has escaped us However that has all past Senator Rosa has enlisted in tbe Home Rule cause and of course be will include Americans as well aa Irish inho boon Wo may confidently confi-dently expect his vote In the Senate next winter to bo cast in favor of our Home Rule bill when that measure comes before the house for action Indeed may we not hope that he will try to convert Senator PLATT who has stood with him in opposition opposi-tion to Home Rule for Utahto the idea that it would be just as well to confer Home Rule on American citizens as on Irish subjects |
