Show WITH THE TUSCARORA The Annual Clam Bake is Observed at the Warm Springs The ancient and timehonored annual an-nual clam bake of the Tribe of Tuscar ora was held yesterday afternoon at the tepee of the grizzled warrior Hank Barnes at the springs of Warm water I was a feast in which not only those qf the family and tribe of the Tuscaro ras took part but the warriors and wise inca of other tribes yea eVen of the tribe whose members are at war with tIe Tuscarora sat down to the festive board The Tuscaroras are ever gener Ijtis even to their foes and realizing How they are going to bury the tomahawk toma-hawk deep in the skull of the Republican Repub-lican tribe on November 6 rightly considered con-sidered that they could afford to be I generous and bade them welcome to the feast The great warrior Hank Barnes was master of ceremonies The clams were fat and juicy and were dished up in the most appetizing style The succulent bivalve was washed down with draughts from the flowing p m and was worthy of I the tribe traditions of the great Tuscarora tribeINITIATORY CEREMONIES In the evening the Tuscaroras held a grand counsel of the chiefs and warriors war-riors at the Grand Army hall he Word having been passed around that a host of pale faces had applied for naturalization into the tribe and that the wise men and sagamoresJiad made diligent Inquiry as to the fortitude and bravery of the applicants and decreed that they were worthy to numbered among the tribe a large attendance of the braves to participate in the ceremonies cere-monies assembled together The Initiatory night the indifference to physical pain and the capacity of endurance of the candidates were put to the most rigid tests Riding the goat is an ordeal which is more or less dreaded by ap nlicants for admission to fraternal and secret societies and in some cases with good reason but the amount of physical physi-cal endurance reauired from a novice upon making his entrance to the Tus carom tribe as might be expected is greater than in most orders The ceremonies are according to informa ton and belief very impressive and of such a character that the initiate is not likely to soon forget his obligations During the progress of the work last evening passersby stopped m front of tIe hall attracted by the strange and In some cases unearthly noises and watched and listened in unavailing attempts tempts to penetrate the secrets which are only known to the initiated For hours the ceremonies went on and when the solid work and the playful gambols were ended the following lISt of newly Letcher III into the office of chief of the tribe and admonished admon-ished him to see that the fortunes of the Tuscarora did not wane under his rule The Tuscarora in these valleys in these latter days is the child of the Grand Sachem Powers I and he watches it with tender solicitude as it spreads itself and grows in Utah Grand Sachem Harris I ruled the tribe for a short time and was reluctantly from business reasons compelled to resign re-sign and Grand Sachem Letcher III now reigns in his stead In assuming the high office Mr Letcher made a short but eloquent and timely address and cravp every assurance that nothing would be left undone by him which would tend to the advancement of the tribe until their numbers become great like unto the numbers of the grains of sand on the seashore When there is work to be done the scalping knife of the Tuscarora will be unsheathed and remain unsheathed until that work is accomplished Harry T Ball was Installed in the office of big medicine man by the retiring re-tiring chief who held that office Morris Mor-ris Sommer Morris made a suitable speech which was happily responded to by the new incumbent The chiefs and warriors of the tribe will assemble at the Eagle block at 945 oclock this morning march to the Union Pacific depot and escort the delegates dele-gates arriving by train to the Democratic Demo-cratic convention at the theatre Angus An-gus M Cannon jr will act as standard stand-ard bearer Political Notes The convention meets at 1030 a mI todaybear that in mind Ris generally believed that Hon J L Rawlins will be renominated today on the first ballot Republican enthusiasm is at a very low ebb this morning I will be gone entirely after todays convention The Tuscarora braves will go to the depot in a body this
