Show THE DE lOcnTIO COXVEXTIor The Democratic territorial convention will meet in the Theatre today It will be an assembly of representative men lbe from various parts of the territory JThey are gentlemen of strong convie Hions and are backed by constituencies thoroughly imbued with the righteousness righteous-ness of the Democratic cause I They are charged with the duty of jselectlng a candidate for the high office of Delegate In Congress and will be expected to formulate and adopt a platform on which the Democracy of Utah can stand together In unity and harmony The task will not be irksome Irk-some and the occasion will no doubt Jbe joyful and memorable I Although it is expected that the term of the Delegate to be elected will be i brief because a Representative will be I elected with the ratification of the state constitution who will probably enter lupon his labors at the opening of the new Congress yet it is necessary that 1a wise choice be made in order that 1 Utah may be kept in line as a Democratic Demo-cratic commonwealth i The indications are that all the rays from every point will converge without with-out hindrance in one direction We anticipate an-ticipate a concentration of force that I will carry everything before it and lift up to the front a standard bearer who will lead the party to a splendid vic tory in November I Democrats are independent in their views When they differ on any point they are emphatic and pronounced and having no strings on them they speak wllat they think without reservation That is all right We would not repress re-press their thoughts or stay their expression ex-pression in the least degree But we simply suggest that individual opinions Jon minor matters must sometimes be subordinate to the general view And we want a perfect union of all our forces that we may gain a signal triumph tri-umph over the foe I By respecting the views of one another an-other and keeping in sight the common I good the best results can be achieved and many difficulties will be avoided I The Democracy of Utah must come together to-gether today in the spirit of fraternity land determination to achieve renewed i I success Everything before them is of the I most encouraging character The I I achievements of the party the grand work of our Delegate the prospects of statehood through Democrati efforts the benefits conferred upon Utah by the powers that be and the utter absence t of benefits from the powers that have been with the glorious principles of freedom and equal rights which are embodied In the Democratic creed are amply sufficient to secure a magnificent Ivirtorv if the needful work is done I during the time between the convention conven-tion and the election I Every man who forms an element of the great body that will convene today should place the party and its needs before personal wishes views and am ibitions and hold himself ready to do this part in the work that lies before I the party All must be up and doing and those who are placed in the lead must receive that support that comes I from united enthusiastic enlightened and patriotic citizens determined on a vigorous and unflinching campaign for the supremacy of free government 1 The Herald welcomes the sons of Democracy from all points who will gather today to manifest their faith and pledge their good works In behalf Jof the party of the constitution and the people Our latchstring Is out There I are warm hearts within And The Her laId I is with the party and its represent jatives in the battle for political commercial com-mercial and individual liberty |
