Show or IXTEUEST TO FARMERS A General View of I Jt the Situation 11 y Observer Salisbury 11e Observer Salisbury in his weather crop bulletin issued last night gives the following fol-lowing general review of the situation Utah farmers had need of considerable fortitude to carry them hopefully through the past week With crops already backward on account of the late spring the growth made during the week was I not encouraging except in a few favored I localities Now however the situation J Js quite reassuring and farmers smile I with the advent of rain notwithstanding so much snow accompanied it The first few days of the week were I sunny and dry but with chilling winds i and frosts at night The latter part of the week was cloudy rainy and cold Showers began on the 14th in the northern north-ern counties continued the 15th turned to snow on the 16th and by the 17th there was three inches of snow on the ground in some localities In the mid dle section the storm began on the 6th rain changing to snow in cold localities The soil has now got a pretty thorough soaking as the amount of water that Tell was from half un inch to an inch With warm sunny weather following grain grass and vegetables will grow I rapidly The storms caused farming op erations to be suspended for the time I but plowing and sowing were already nearly finished In the northern section winter grain and alfalfa are doing well Garden seeds did not sprout before the storm More 11 grain has been sown than usuil The fruit crop will be immense if severe frosts do not come In the middle section sec-tion spring grain is all in and the small amount of winter grain is looking well fl The sugar beet crop is nearly planted Spring grain is starting to come up Apricots and plums are in bloom In the south crops are late but in good I condition Grass on the ranges is starting start-ing nicely Gardens are mostly planted and the vegetables up Peaches and i h apricots are nearly out of bloom |
