Creating an idea for a series is not too difficult, if you have imagination, a flair for creating interesting characters char-acters and can also write. Those minor chores out of the way, the trick is getting it to the proper people who can put it on the air. That's an entirely different matter. It's difficult enough if you are on the inside of TV. However, if you have an idea and really believe in it, write up an outline and register regis-ter it with the Writer's Guild in Los Angeles. Then try to find an agent who can submit it to the proper people. None of this is easy. And here's a true story: Someone in the industry had a very good idea for a TV variety special. An appointment was made with a top producer and he agreed it was an excellent idea. Then he went to his file and pulled out a presentation. He had made it years earlier and been turned down. It was exactly the same idea and even contained con-tained an identical example. (Do you have a question about TV? Write Val Carew at 200 Park Avenue. Room 602. New York, NY 10166.) |
