Show COLORADO REPUBLICANS IVolcott Thaiilcn Hi Maker That Women Are Allowed to Vote Denver Colo Sept 12There were 933 delegates present at the Republican state convention today a few of whom were women taking part in their first state convention under the equal suffrage rage law Senator James W McCreary l1cCrear was elected temporary chairman Committees Com-mittees were appointed and a recess taken The Indications are that Alo Mclntire of Alamosa will receive the nomination for governor Before recess Senator TVolcott ad dressed the convention Wolcott urged the redemption of the state from Pop ulist misrule He said he would leave the Republican party when some other was ready and able t do more oter si ver and not before A new element has entered politics and the women of the state must par their share of the burden There is no good citizen who does not thank his maker that the women will cast their ballots with him to prevent misrule Since Colorado became becme a state there has never been an hour when its motto mot-to could so earnestly be invoked as now Nothing without divine aid There must be enough men and women In this state to save it from further misrule I believe that this convention will not listen to the claim of any man for office but will select citizens who will I save me sune irom misrule At the conclusion of Senator Wol cotts remarks Senator Teller took the platform He gave a brief history of the fight in Congress last winter to prevent the repeal of the Sherman bill and stated that the silver cause all over the world was growing so rap idly that it was in his opinion but avery a-very short time until a free coinage law would be enacted by Congress He age with his colleague ii his statement state-ment that he was willing to withdraw from the Republican party when It ceased to be friendly to the cause of silver The committee on credentials made their report and the temporary temporry organization organ-ization was made permanent Nominations being in order the following fol-lowing were made For judge of the supreme court John Campbell of Colorado Springs for governor A W Mclntire of Alamosa lieutenantgovernor Judge Brush of Greeley secretary of state A B Mc Gaffry of Denver state treasurer Harry E Mulnlx of Trinidad I being after S oclock when this nomination was made and the delegates dele-gates having had no dinner an adjournment i ad-journment was taken until tomorrow morning I |
