last night the contract for heatIng heat-Ing and ventilating the Grant school was awarded P J Moran and bids for the building complete submitted Steps to enforce the compulsory clause in the school law were taken and a half holi day allowed the pupils on Monday A piano was purchased for the rapidly developing de-veloping divas and impressarios at the high school and bills aggregating 12 I 60542 allowed President Nelson occupied occu-pied the chair with all members present except VicePresident R W Young I GRAVES WANTED A RETAINER A communication was received from J B Hawrey teacher in the publicS school of Waterloo Ia making application appli-cation for employment and adding that A M Graves wanted S10 for his assistance as-sistance in procuring him a place in Salt Lake The correspondent desired to know if Graves was connected with the schools and if he was justified in sending him the retainer Graves it was explained was the superintendent su-perintendent formerly of one of the schools and now runnIng a teachers employment agency Referred to committee com-mittee on teachers A communication was received from Parley L Williams calling the boards attention to the and Mrs Emma Daft Committee on teachers Edwin S Kearsley made application for the position of janitor Committee tee on supplies Joseph Moss desired to learn the fate of a proposition recently submitted sub-mitted to the board concerning the sale of lot 8 block 42 plat B SITES AND BUILDINGS I The committee one sites and buildings i build-ings reported that trees had been setout set-out at each of the buildings as directed by the board and recommended recommend-ed that the janitors be properly instructed in-structed concerning the care of the same I was further recommended that hose be furnished where required Adopted = The committee on sites and buildings build-ings recommended that the Grant school building be erected sixty feet east of the west property line of the lot and eighteen febL south of the north property line f the lot Also that the saperintendtmt and architect make such examination at the expense of the board as will enable the committee commit-tee to determine the extent and kind of foundation tIe the footings Also I that the committee be authorized to award the contract for the footings that the president and clerk be authorized to execute the contract with R Kletting for his compensation compensa-tion as architect on r the Grant building build-ing The report was adopted A communication was received from L S Clark offering ia school site on will be reopened at the next meeting FOR HEATING AND VENTILATING The committee on sites reported having hav-ing received bids for the heating and ventilation of Grant school the same to include a 50horse power boiler from the following lie sch Davis Co > 6390 J W Farrell 5622 Midgley Sons Co 5851 P J Moran 5942 The Moran bid includes in addition to the two boilers mentioned a Herbert Her-bert boiler at 250 which the committee believe to be necessary and deducting this amount places his bid at 569228 The committee therefore recommends the acceptance of the last named bid The recommendation was adopted and checks ordered returned to the unsuccessful unsuc-cessful bidders A HALF HOLIDAY The committee on teachers and schoolwork school-work recommended that a half holi day be given the pupils on Tuesday May 1 next and that no deduction be made in teachers salaries for the day The same committee In view of the faot that the legislature had amended the article of the school law relating to compulsory attendance recommended recommend-ed that a blank be printed with which Ito notify parents of delinquent children chil-dren Adopted I Upon the motion of Mr Hanson the Casualty and Surety company of St Louis were notified comply with the terms of its contract in regard to the insuring and inspecting the eleven I boilers ings now in use in the school build APPROPRIATIONS I
