A Row lu Church Oier 0 Skirt Dance Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch DETUOIT Fob 20Thero is a well developed row ia the fold of the Church of the Messiah one of the leading Episcopal congregations of this city all because of an entertainment given by the young peoples peo-ples society ip tho cause of charity The eutertainment was given Wednesday ovening in the church parlors and the feature fea-ture of tho bill was a skirt danca by Miss Blanche Kern She was dressed in the conventional garb muds popular by Lattie bind and burlesque troops Miss Kern is a daughter of ono of the leading families of the city and a prominent member of thc elite society Although her perform anco was modest and refined it jarred tho moral nerves of the pastor Roy L O Rogers and tho prudish members of the congregation Tho reverend gentleman took occasion to criticiae the performance as demoralizing and immodest whereupon the young peoples society announced that the performance would be repeated next Tuesday evening without change of pro gramme Tho young people insist that aa Miss Kern coca all her high kicking with her back to Iho uudience her performance I is modest to a fault but tho Rev Mr Rogers remains firm and declares that he will not occupy his pulpit Sunday unless the young people chance their minds and leave the skirt dunce off their performance The vestry pro about equally divided on the matter but the oldest members side with the young people and aro loud in their demands de-mands for a repetition of the performance skirt dance and all
