Show Virtual Defeat of the Land Court Bill I WASHINGTON C D Sept 27Speeial telegram to TiE HnnALDJ A victory was won today by tho western states led by Senator Wolcott in opposition to thepas sage in the present crcde shape of the bill t establish a private land claims court So clearly had its faulty character and many absurdities been shown up by Mr Wolcott and others that Senator Frye of Maine seeing how utterly hopeless it would be the task of making a good bill out of this one moved to postpone post-pone the consideration of this measure until an uncertain date in December next but on the suggestion OT Senator Wolcott seconded by Senator Spooner Mr Frye modified his motion R as to have the bill recommitted ti the committee on land claims for further consideration In view of the criticisms that have beea passed upon this measure in its present form and the numerous suggestions of amendment that havo been made byvarious Senators the committee may be able in the next winters session to report a bill which will meet the views and receive tho support of the Senators representing the states which are most interested in the very important legislation contemplated by this measure |
