| Show THE TRAGEDY OF YESTERDAY Little Walter Duckworth Instantly Killed by an Electric Car I was a sad and heartrending tragedy that occurred on Second South street about occure S oclock yesterday morning and i has brought grief unspeakable unto the family of the wellknown mechanic Joseph J Duckworth Mr Duckworths family lives in the rear of the Union blacksmith shops which are situated in an alley running north from Second Sec-ond South between Fourth and Fifth West streets As has been her custom for sometime past Mrs Duckworth sent the lad out to a wagon in the street t purchase some ic i As the boy approached the ice wagon the driver was in the act of turning it around A short distance up the street an electric car was coming at full speed As the boy made an effort to get out of the way of toe wagon he ran onto the track I and his attention being drawn more to tho wagon than the car he evidently failed to I hear the cars approach The motor man seeing the boy on the track at once reversed re-versed the current and applied tho brakes but it was too late The ponderous car ran against the lad knocked him down and he was crushed to death under the wheels As soon a possible the body was gotten out when it became apparent that he must have mangled been killed instantly The body was badly manjled An inquest was held yesterday afternoon and the above facts elicited The verdict I was that of accidental death no blame being be-ing attached to either the company or the motor man The many friends of Mr Duckworth in this city will condole with him and his family on the sad occurrence The funeral services will be held nt 1 pm today from parents residence Friends are invited t attend |
