| Show DOCTORS TO BUILD Scene of an Eight Story Structure ON THE BURLINGTON SITE Dr Freeman and Forty Other Doctors and Professional Men to Take Stock i tho Enterprise Last evening it was learned that Dr Freeman and a number of other professional profes-sional men who have found it difficult to I secure office rooms at reasonable rentals have concluded to join hands and erect a buiding where they could occupy their own offices THE HEKALDS informer said that forty men have agreed to take 2000 stock each and that negotiations wero pending for tho site on Third South and Main streets known as the Burlington site A five years lease recently made of tho corner room is said to recenty be in tho way but it is believed that this can be arranged by giving the parties a room in the new building Tho new building i the site is secured will be eight stories high with six business rooms on the ground hoer gound toor i WholesnlA Grocery The old building on First South street just east of Crismon Scarffs drug store is being torn down I will bo replaced by a fine structure to be used by a new wholesale whole-sale grocery company made up of some of Salt Lakes enterprising young grocery clerks S The Finest Front in the City Gus Holmes if not an artist is artistic Yesterday he displayed the perspective of the front elevation of his new building to a HERALD reporter and it is an astonisher No ono expected much of a building from Gus as he is so modest ana unassuming and his blushes are on a par with those of Wendell Benson of the Knutsf ord But Holmes is covering himself with glory and a big patch of ground with a grand new pile of pressed brick and red sandstone The materials that go into the Holmes block are much the same as those that make up other buildings It is the way they are gotten together that makes one building a thing of beauty an architectural success Thoharmony of arrangement is everything and yet there are few buildings that strikingly beautiful Indeed the Holmes block is the first really handsome front of the many new blocks that are being erected There are a number of attractive buildings that display many fine lines but they are not symposiums The original plans of the Ontario were orignal far the finest from an architectural standpoint stand-point of any seen this year But they were not allowed to stand and their original orig-inal purity of style had to be blown out of proportion to suit the prevailing fashion of bustles and bay windows The Holmes block is a reproduction of the Ernst building erected by the cattle millionaire of Denvtr The archway or entrance is very massive single blocks of cut stone weighing nine tons A very pleasin feature of the front is a recess above the entrance in the fifth story The above are the plans Will Mr Holmes build to them The first intention was to build but three stories though the walls are being constructed con-structed heavy enough t add two moro stories By stopping the building at the third story it will give it a sawed off appearance and the fine architectural effects will be lost It is to be hoped tnat the Holmes block will go up five stories Two and three story buildings do not belong to a city Of 50000 inhabitants with a sure grip on 100000 in the near future Aim high Hitch your building to a star A pretty effect that is worth mentioning is a framo of fancy colored glazed brick enclosing tho windows of two stories |
