| Show ABOUT CITY ELECTIONS The Liberal organ hates to admit that Liberal registrars listed men from at least three counties to vote at the last city election elec-tion and says the Peoples party had Him i i flams at the polls to deceive innocent Lib I orals with the wrong ticket This is the course pursued by every con i victed rogue he says other people would be as badas himself if they only had a chance to be Wo proved by publishing affidavits of Liberals who were lejistered all along the Denver li Rio Grande railway that the Liberal party carried the last city election largely through fraud To offset this the Liberal organ asserts that the Peoples party tried to do tho same thing It is a poor excuse for a convicted criminal crimi-nal to say that some one else would have donOj might have done or attempted do the same thing that he did and especially is this true when the only proof the criminal crimi-nal has to offer is hisown assertion In this predicament the Liberal organ stands It attempts to j > ff set specific proof with vague general assertions to condone actual criminality by saying its opponent wanted to commit the same crime to cover 3 upthe transparent crookedness of its own party by saying that somewhere at sometime some-time or other and in some way or other somebody gave to somebody else a ticket to I vote and upon the word L of L Judge POWEKS LuiHucKuii wus u jruujutt uuKtiu jms asseveration as-severation was weak enough without further dilution by saying that this vaguo charge rested upon POWERS assertion But the convicted criminal does not have the effrontery to say that two Liberal registrars i regis-trars did not go through soeral counties registering men to vote at the city election The poor thing did once say to tho infinite amusement of Salt Lakers that it was the = Peoples party that had sent these Liberal registrars down the road to register Liberals Liber-als to vote for Liberal registrars who were also Liberal candidates but the organ soon saw fit to abandon that ridiculous subterfuge subter-fuge fugeFinding Finding it impossible to deny the crimes of its own party it then attempted to raise a cloud of dust aboutthe sewer gangs bo ing colonizers Tho only notic able difference differ-ence between the sewer workers as now constituted and as they were six months ago is that they are now exclusively Liberals and pledged to vote the Liberal Fr ticket and formerly they were men of both parties free to vote which way they pleased For the past two years there have been large numbers of men from other places employed m this city the great activity in 1 buildings street railroads public works and other enterprises calling them here Now tho Liberal registrars being candi f S j f t C S n dates for election permitted no member of the Peoples partyto vote if ho was a new comer and had lived here under a year because be-cause as they pretended beliovo he was a colonizer while they permitted everything every-thing in the shape of a man that would vote the Liberal ticket to cast ballots on election day even If they had to register them the very day they voted The Peoples party made no attempt to get men registered who were not qualified register On the contrary the Peoples central committee sent for every supposed Peoples man they could hear of whose right to register and vote was at all doubtful doubt-ful and after examination advised about onethird of the new comers not to attempt to register Not because these men had not lived here six months or over but because be-cause they were likely to leave tho city at any time and were not therefore bona fide residents Others who expected to remain in tho city whose families were Lore and had no intention of4eaving tho city in the immediate future were told they had the right to register and vote if they desired to do so Some who were advised not to register however persisted in doing so on their own responsibility Since the city election hundreds of strangers mostly Liberals have come into ho city We do not say they are colonizers colon-izers though many of them are employed by the city Many old residents mostly of the Peoples party have sold out and left since the city election because they feared the extravagance insolence and insecurity of Liberal rule All tho Peoples party men formerly employed oy the city were promptly turned out from fireman to grave digger from policeman to dog pelter as soon as the hungry Liberals came into power Many of these have taken up a homo in other towns or in tho country A canvass of voters as Mormon or nonMor mon would now show a nonMormon majority ma-jority in the city but that no longer signifies sig-nifies a Liberal majority One of the most gratifying results of Liberal tyranny shown ut the last election for county officers of-ficers was that large numbers of Liberals came to the polls ticket In hand so that no one could tell which way thoy voted The Liberal bosses could not oven tell which way some 01 the policemen voted and were annoyed this reserve of many voters Some Liberals at each Doll were foolish and childish enough to take their tickets from the envelope and show them to the Liberal presiding judge but this boyish cowardice was rare This silent rebuke re-buke of the Liberal bosses is significant While every Liberal is well aware of some at least of the gigantic frauds of the Liberal Lib-eral registrars many of them mend their consciences by trying to believe that their opponents would have done tho same thing if they had had the power Nevertheless as citizens they are already becoming disgusted dis-gusted with Liberal rule and we confidently con-fidently expect to see the Liberal ring kicked out of power by the action of the independent I I in-dependent citizens of that party |
