of the city Property in that section will now be in greater demand than ever George M Cannon tho chief mover in the direction of Forest Dale and to whose pluck and enterprise the extension of the Rapid Transit line to that portion of the county is mainly due was very jubilant over the fact that electric cars were running run-ning to tho heart of the addition and in order to see for himself the practical workings of tho new line a HERALD reporter re-porter took the 9 oclock car at the city hall I I yesterday for an early morning ride The car took him south on State road as far as Seventh South where the line turns east and runs as far as Ninth East street where it again turns south and runs as far as Perkins Boulevard and Forest Dale On either side of the track after leaving Ninth South may bo noticed new buildings t by the score either just completed or under headway buildings too that the city may be proud of many costing their thousands In tact the many advantages which that part of the city affords has attracted tho people so successfully that it is impossible to tell when the city limits are reacned This line penetrates a densely populated district including Yerona The Evergreens etc a district in which reside many of the best families of the city and the convenience conven-ience to the citizens of that neighborhood can hardly be estimated Tne car after a run of twenty one and a half minutes including stops reached the und of the track and the eportor on looking around found himself at Forest Dale and was greatly surprised at the large amount of improvements which he noticed were being made on every hand Within a radius of five blocks ho counted buildings either completed or nearly so for wentyeight families many of them brick and some costing as much as 5000 Tho addition lies between the drive on Fifth East and Tenth East streets and in the eater is isA A BEAUTIFUL WALNUT GROVE which has been reserved as a school ground The water supply and drainage is all that ould be desired An artesian well with a good flow of pure water can be had at a depth of from seventy to n hundred and ninety feetand by the addition of a small hydraulic ram costincr 14 sufficient force can be secured to send the water to any part > of a large house and thus have all the advantages of a city residence Nearly every house in the addition now has an artesian tesian well and two drivers aro now at work there sinking others in fact a well can be put down at less expense than neces ary to lay water j > ipes where city water is in use The drainage is excellent the slope toward the west being eight feet to the block and the land is as fertile and rich as can be found in any part of the vale as is evinced by the vigorous vig-orous and healthy growth of the many trees which adorn the homes of the residents of that part of our arborescent city As to water for irrigating purposes the land has in addition to artesian wells one of the oldest and best water rights from Parleys anon creek and also a number of large springs situated jUst east of Forest Dale Among the conveniences to bo found there is the storewhich was recently established ablished by Joseph W Simpson of the Fourteenth ward He carries a large stock of general merchandise and is doing a thriving business Forest Dale is located less than one half mile from one of the principal stations on the Utah Central railroad which will be of consiuenib advantage in many ways one of which is the convenience in securing a coal supply When the great coal fields of the eastern part ot the territory terri-tory are opened up by the Utah Central railroad nearly all the coal supply of the city will be secured from that suurce and the close proximity to the depot will save a great deal in hauling alone as we will not be obliged to go two or three miles for fuel as is the case in many parts of the city A SCHOOL AT TOUEST DALE A school has already been established and is now runring within a few blocks which will prove to be a valuable addition to the advantages already there and a great convenience to the residents Within the next year the school population will nearly equal any district in Salt Lake city New buildings and greater school facilities will bo added as rapidly the growing population popula-tion may demand This property is outside of the city limits lim-its und its residents are relieved of the burden of city taxation besides they have no water tax to pay nor have they any of the other disadvantages incidental to a residence in a city and yet all the convenience con-venience of city life are at hand Forest Dale is situated on the east drive the most popular of all the drives in the city and during the summer season the streets are sprinked to within three blocks To the man who owns his own horse and buggy this place offers superior advantages advan-tages During the dry and duty part of the year no moro pleasant street can be found in the city than the drive and the man who lives there can enjoy while on business what others must take as a pleasure pleas-ure or luxury Then during the winter when the roads are bad there is the State road and the south boulevard the latter of which is graveled and turnpikcd malting malt-ing the drive in the winter the most pleasant pleas-ant in the city The man who does not afford af-ford his own conveyance on the other hand is provided with transportation which cannot be excelled by the Rapid Transit cars which run to his door every hour The cars now leave tho city hall corner on thQ hour and returning leave Forest Dale on the hal hour In order t make assurance doubly sure the property owners own-ers of that vicinity who are interested in J the car line have entered into a contract with the Rapid Transit company binding them to run cars at least every hour to the southern terminus of the track for a period of twenty years so that investors who desire de-sire to make this their home need have no tear that when they have fitted up a neat place of residence the street car line will be abandoned and they be left witho 21 transportation The tide of emigration thither however is so great that within avery a-very short time the running of cars will be > a source of revenue to the company and they will not desire to discontinue the line Cars at present run on mthis line frotrr a t until SjpxitnjM 1 las oon as there is a demaifdVor r either earlier or later they will be run The fare on this route is lOc but books containing one hundred tickets will be sold for S 7 bringing the faro down to only7c which will entitle the passenger to a transfer to the depots or any other part of the city reached by the Rapid Transit Tran-sit lines I To show that ran MANY GOOD POINTS of this vicinity are being recognized by the people it might be stated that within the past six weeks 21000 worth of property has been sold in Forest Dale alone The lots are of fair size being 25x155 feet with a 20foot alley in the rear which enables teams to pass and permits the lot owner II to utilize his entire frontage A number of the lots are of larger size which will suit those who desire or can afford amore a-more expensive lot Tho price ranges from 150 to 810 each according to location and size and to aid those who wish to invest their money in building lots will be sold on easy installments to suit purchasers of small means In Perkins Boulevard addition addi-tion adjoining Forest Dale fully 70 percent per-cent of the lots have already been sold and and in Forest Dale there are about three hundred lots which are offered for sale The reporter after learning the above particulars took a horse and buggy for the city and after jogging along at a moderate pace arrived at his starting point in nineteen nine-teen minutes This beautiful subdivision is but seven minutes drive from Liberty park and the prices are so far below what is asked for property in the vicinity of the park that there is no doubt but what the sales will still continue to be as rapid as they have been during the past few weeks Anyone desiring to receive further information in-formation concerning this desirable location loca-tion can do
