Show 1 THE EYE OF mm Mr Jarvis Believes Unprecedented I Unprece-dented Prosperity Is Coming MORE IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED The Utah Poultry Associations Annual Exhibit Ex-hibit No Quorum at the Chamber of Commerce The Midland Among the arrivals at the Knutsford yesterday was S M Jarvis of Kansas City president of the Jarvis Conklin Mortgage Loan and Trust company and with him came Mr S L Conklin of the same place and Mr E Naylor of Brad ford England Knowing that those gentlemen wereA well acquainted with the financial outlook in general aud largely interested in Utah and Salt Lake a representative of THE HERALD managed to catch them in their rooms after tho opera was over Mr Jarvis expressed himself as glad to meet a representative of the Salt Lake prass I always read Salt Lake papers said he and when corning corn-ing this way my appetite gets pretty sharp by the time I roach Green RIverso much so that oant go to bed until I have read them all through What of the business outlook I Well in general it is deoidodly better all over our country and there aro several reasons for it The short grain crop in Europe and the long crop here enable us to sell the surplus at an advanced price and this together with the cotton crop is relieving the financial finan-cial strain under which we have been struggling The causes for the condition of tbo finance market were to bo mainly found in tho difficulties abroad but the money which was sent to Europe is now returning to buy our grain and added to this good fortune is the news which the wIres bring that Germany France and Italy have thrown open their ports to the only king we recognizethe American hog l this means that the wost and south are relieving the financial stringency in the east While we cannot expect immediate imme-diate relief 1 believe we are on ihe eve of the greatest prosperity which this country I has seen in the past five years You will not th advance in railroad values in the great Mississippi region why 1 because there is not enough rolling stock engines and carsto haul the surplus crops to mar ket Every great line is crowded to its full capacity and all are making money The speculative fever is over and we are spare solid with an abundance of products to spareWhat of Kansas City and her late boom I Kansas City is doing well Our jobbln business was larger this season than over before It is a city that grows with the advance of the great azricultural regions surrounding it Why in the line of farm ing implements i was not able to fill the demands But I do not care to talk of ourselves our-selves you know us and our great city Now take your intermountain region n country peculiar to itself where the diversity di-versity of interests such as the mines agriculture ag-riculture and stock have kept it in better condition than any part of the United States you are better off here than another an-other region vtsy reason or the geographical situation ty and these diversified interests Utah farmers farm-ers must continue to prosper and agricultural agricul-tural lands will be more valuable here than in any other portion of the country 1 first came to Utah five years ago and then predicted it would be just what it is fast developing into and upon my faith in its future I made the first mortgage loan Since that time we have placed over a mil lon dollars here and have never made a foreclosure I am glad to say that I have had no occasion to change my views or my prophecy I Do you anticipate a boom for Salt Lake and Utah I hope not for booms arc a misfortune Stick t a legitimate business basis and you wi increase 50 per cent faster than by booms We have seen their effects In the vest they began at Kansas City St Paul and Minneapolis then jumped j to California back to Dallas up to Wichita and Denverthen touched Salt Lake and Ogden and skirted to the Puget Sound region Speculation became a disease di-sease and the men made a business of booms even pushing into the mountains of Tennessee and Alabama I have been allover all-over the United States and seen the effect after the fever the patient requires ja long time to regain strength As for Salt Lake I have seen it pass from a large country village to the proportions of a city Where a few short years ago you had an occasional business house magnificent blocks are towering I ip elllated magnitcent can have no rivaland will be tho best of our inland cities You should push your public improvements improve-ments for nothing is of so great importance import-ance These broad streets can be easily easiy paved since the grade and climate will vi readily admit of the use of asphalt hI am glad that the people are acting wisely in working in the interest of cap hal and thereby promoting home industry as well Your sugar factory is a sample that will bear repetition Men of means should not hesitate to come to Utah This is the first trip of Mr Taylor to i the states and after going over the eastern i and middle section he visits Utah He is I both surprised and delighted at tho city I and country and the yield of the farms is beyond comprehension With others he is already largely interested in Utah and they propose investing further So well pleased is he that Salt Lake is wel at least one visit annually The party will be here several days A BIG DEAL I I I Four Hundred and ThirtyFire Acres of Ground Sold Near the Stock Yards The Cooper tract of land near the stockyards stock-yards site has been sold to New York parties par-ties There is 435 acres of ground in the tract together with
