Show J Strike on the St Louis Belt Lino I ST Louis Nov 10The engineers and firemen on the Belt line have just declared a strike This will probably spread to other lines as 1r Arthur stated no freight will be handled by brotherhood men going to the Belt line or Wiggins Ferry company There aro but fiftytwo engineers and firemen in the employ of the Wiggins company com-pany and the strike of them alone would not amount to much but the Belt line handle nearly all tie freight sent over astern roads for this city and a ieup of the Belt line would leave an immense amount of freight consigned to St Louis and seriously affect the trade of this city Then too if the men on otuer roads refuse to haul cars consigned to or from the Wiggins Wig-gins Ferry company as Chief Arthur says hey wH the roads are very apt to attempt to force them and if they do a strike on tne big western roads would result A strike wi probably be inaugurated tomorrow Mr Arthur and Mr Sargent were seen his evening They stated all efforts toward to-ward a peaceful settlement of tho difficulty had failed andtharefore all the engineers and firemen employed by the company would be ordered out at noon tomorrow |
