Show A NEW FORGE BILL The Senate Substitute for Lodges Plan INTERSTATE COMMERCE DECISION The Santa Fel Defeated General HcCook Goes to Arizona Ketliiclnf Cavalry and Infantry Regiments WASHINGTON Aug7 Among the changes whichthe Senate committc made in the substitute for the Lodge election bill which was reported to the Senate today arc the following All reference to that section of the revised statutes which it was claimed at the provides for the presence of troops polls was stricken out the house to house canvass provided for in tho House bill was stricken out aud the provision for drawing juries by commissioners was also omitted Tho penal offenses were simplified and made misdemeanors instead of felonies the punishments were modified the highest I punishment imposed being throe years imprisonment i im-prisonment and a fine of 100 a against imprisonment for five years and a fine of 1000 in the House bill The judge of tho circuit court before whom application is made for the appointment of supervisors is authorized as supervisor to appoint ap-point any persons he may seen see-n not being confined in his selection to the list furnished by tho chief supervisor In cases where ballots are cast in tho wrong box they are not to be counted unless the talley sheet shows the votes for Congressmen do not equal the number of names on the poll list Then enough of the votes so wrongly cast shall be added to the talley sheet to make the total equal the whble number of votes shown to have been cast Where election officers refuse to administer the oath tooters to-oters applying therefor it is provided in the bill that the supervisors shall administer admin-ister the oath but no effort shall be made to made to have the vote thus refused cast the object being merely to preserve the testimony testi-mony of application and refusal |
