Show THE CENSUS FIGURES Dr Condons Figures and Those of The Herald To the Editor of THE HERALD Referring to an editorial paragraph ia this mornings HERALD I beg to say than your figures population as published last 1 Sunday are no doubt correct Mine in many instances were only approximate as the daily reports of tho enumerators had all been sent to Washington and unless 1 knew the towns and counties personally I had no means of locating the geographical lines and consequently the towns would be figured by me in some cases as coextensive coexten-sive with the precinct T gave those figures fig-ures alter much research in consequence of a lack of data to satisfy a daily demand that was made on mo for the number of inhabitants in certain towns and counties 1 got the figures from Washington aftefr mine had been made up and sent out Mine for the most part were only intended as an approximation but are near enough for all practicalpurposes There is no falling off in the population of any county since 18SO it only appears so because of change ia their boundary lines Very respectfully AS CONDON TInE HERALD had no intention of casting cast-ing a reflection upon the action of Dr Con don Some of the papers were commenting upon the difference between the figures given by us and those of the supervisor ajid we merely wished the public to know which was official |
