Show ALL HALLOWS COLLEGE A Scientific literary and Musical Entertainment Entertain-ment by the Students During the week a varied and interesting pro gramme was rendered by the students of All Hallows college Every seat In the largo study hall which can accommodate 300 persons was occupied A temporary stage with curtains and a profusion of bunting and flags was erected In the center of the west end ot the hall The college orchestra had Its musical stand south of the stage while to the north end the students had their cloak and dressingrooms The entertainment which was both literary and scientific reflects the greatest credit on the young men who took part in It also on the teachers to whose training and direction the i success was due After an Introductory piece by tho orchestra the curtain was raised and three of the senior students Messrs J Fanning A B rune an and M Riley each In his turn lectured on lightning and electricity whilst the other two gave practical prac-tical experiments illustrating the qualities and I power of electricity This part of the programme which was very instructive was one of the leading features of the entertainment The primary class consisting of about twentynve small boys made a semicircle on the stage and eave The Plaint of the Rising Generation The burden of complaint seemed to be that while their sisters were all petted they were cuffed on every side A comiC song The little Scrub by J Sullivan Sulli-van was encored whilst a recitation by Francis McCannon received rounds ot applause The juniors had a play entitled An Idla Boys Dream The leading character Ned Morton an Idle bov was verv creditably ear ned out by Master F Villeneure who was supported sup-ported by Master J Lawrence as Prince Wisdom Wis-dom The other students taking part in this play executed their parts very well Emets Cuckoo Song accompanied by orchestra or-chestra was well rendered by Masters S Clay ton and H Johnston recitation which consisted of a comic description de-scription of the habits and aspirations of the different European countries was given by Master D Shields and created much amusement amuse-ment A farce Caught by the Cuff in which the senior students acted created much merriment and laughter During the various exercises the college orchestra or-chestra discoursed some fine music which shows that great pains must be taken by tho musical professor in bringing his band to such I perfection THE HERALD extends its congratulations to the pupils on their success and hopes those literary entertainments will be repeated often for the benefit and Instruction of the pupils and their friends |
