| Show THK REPUBLICAN DILEMMA We think the Republican party is in avery a-very embarrassing situation just at present pres-ent The recent election has somewhat demoralized the party as well it might while grave differences are known to exist as to the immediate line of policy to bo followed fol-lowed in Congress Xn the one hand Senators HOAU ED MCXDS and others favor the immediate passage pas-sage qtthe force bill apparently belie nit n-it to be the only hope of the party for future supremacy But others of the party including Mr ELAINE and Senator QCAT are more or less opposed to the bill and believe it will bring disaster upon the Republican rather than upon the Democratic Demo-cratic party Meantime while engaged in the force bill discussion which promises to be endless end-less unless gaglaw can be adopted in the Senate the business interests of the country coun-try are suffering the farmers are restive the silver men aggressive and the whole country impatient because Congress prefers pre-fers to attempt the disfranchisement of Democratic voters rather than attend to needed financial legislation It is thought that several Republican Senators may vote against the force bill not a few Republican leaders and newspapers news-papers have denounced it and Republican I opposition to it has already been manifested manifes-ted in the Senate Presidents message however committed com-mitted the party to the measure and now it cannot ba laid aside without stultification of the party nor can it be pushed with safety In such a predicament the repudiated I arty stands who can say what will be he outcome I |
