| Show Womans Christian Temperance Union ATLANTA Ga Nov HThe national convention of the Womans Christian Temperance union besran here this afternoon after-noon with a largo attendance Presinent Frances E Wiiliard presiding A public meeting was held tonight at which Miss Wiiliard delivered her annual address It I is lengthy covering 10T pages It dealt with the years work and declared the Womans Christian Temperanceunion to be now closing its best year and one of its largest in the increase in membership It asserted that the original package decision resulted in the most hopeful temperance agitation of the year It declared against lifjhlicense and for prohibition by law by politics and by womens ballots Miss William said We women want ono half the world an undivided hal She advised ad-vised the organization of a womans council in every town to be composed of the presidents of the various societies engaged in wonens work this to be a sort of clearing house of their work By such unification of womens enterprise I i will be practicable to build 1 womeno temple in every town to serve as a rendez tous for their varied philanthropic work nd by its rental to help carry that work forward February 13 to tho ISth next has been set for the first regular meeting of the i Omans National council at Cincinnati and the National Womens Christian Temperance union invited to send repro tentative women who shall speak in its be 1 atf Let us name a day for a general uovemcnt all over the land for a membership member-ship crusade Let the local unions divide in twos ana threes starting out early in tho morning and contmuing until eveiiing canvassing for new members unt leaving literature in each home Tne thought that hundreds and thousands of women the world over are doing missionary work some day will give faith courage and success Miss Willard asked that the convention vote on such a day for the next year Also on the question of a petition from the women of the civilized world to the Czar against political prisoners b 4 ig classed with those guilty of crime ad against their being treated with so much harshness harsh-ness The business of the convention begins conventon pins tomorrow |
