Show THE OVERFLOW MEETING The Hardliner Clubs Assemble in Front of the t Social Hall A Great Showing From all sections of the city last evening came the various marching clubs of the Peoples party and by about 830 these in full uniform accompanied by their drum corps nail bands bad Dissembled in front of the Social bal filling J up the yard blocking block-ing the street and making the air ring with cheer upon cheer The clubs attracted wide attention and the audience at the outofdoor meeting must have been almost al-most i not quite as large as that within the walls of the theatre The glare of the torches and the redfire illumination produced pro-duced a most pleasing effect The night was a most pleasant one and the marching clubs were joined in their cheers by tie hundreds of people filling either sidewalk Some of the clubs were late in assembling so it was nearly S 30 when Mr Richards appeared on the steps and called the clubs to order He was accompanied by Gilbert A McLean and the crowd no sooner caught sight of them when the suggestion of three cheers for Richards was made In an instant from a thousand throats came the response and Mac was also heartily cheered Mr Richards made a short speech in which he predicted the success of the Peoples ticket at the polls on Monday next and wound up by thanking the boys for the zealous manner in which they had carried on the campaign and for the interest in-terest taken in a full vote and an honest count He was heartily cheered all the way through and he retired by nominating c w pmmOSI chairman The gentleman was elected with cheers He said n I have seen other lights tonight but not like ours these other lights vera Chinese lanterns emblems of trickery and ways that sue dark We have nc dark ways all that we have done is open and above boaid nail we are not afraid to let it be published abroad over the wide land Wu need to publish no bogus dispatches on our side to vindicate our ctso I am also proud of our ticket which we ratify tonight I am proud of i because it is lepreseiitativo Men 01 capital men of labor incii of commerce and of ouug Utah art represented Let this ticket be our watchword oa the 1Jth Applause We want to put no block in the way of any rightful voters or true representative of the city and we only ask that we ourselves haye the rights of freemen free-men I am proud as I look at the assembled multitudes multi-tudes t see the true representatives of our city not men brought all the way from the Colorado boundary but such as have their interests in-terests and homes in the community Cheers Mr Penrose then thanked the clubs on behallof centtal committe for the ardor vith which the 1 campaign had been carried on and desired all to do their duty on Monday Mon-day next The band Xorden rendered a fine selection at the close of which Mr Penrose proposed three cheers for tho band which was entered into with spirit u F CUSIMINGS JR I never witnessed a finer sight in all my life than this I now see before Such c sight is I I enough t make any man eloquent I is different differ-ent from that funeral procession which 1 saw on the street today Applause I watched that gang carefully hut no young Utah conld be seen i the ranks be i said to tuotr honor Young Utah was as scarce with them as a hens teeth But here is u teething mss of young Utah which uiikca one prouu I have an announcement to make to you this evening and I make it ou the beat of authority authority tat cannot be gainaaid and this announcement an-nouncement is thai the People party are going to win this election Prolonged cheers I is openly confessed by the Lloerals themselves when they placed in nomination men who held mortgages on the offices Laughter They confessed their inability to win when the Utah commission appointed those men judicial judges they confessed it when they ran the registration car to the line of Colorado Cheers I the Liberals should carry the election it will not be because they won i but because they stole it The Sixteenth Ward brass band played an airMr Mr Penrose If the Liberals do steal the election elec-tion you may rest assured no pains will be spared to bring the perpetrators to justice JOHN NICHOLSON I inspires me to take par with you this evening even-ing and to ratify the ticket we have nominated It is a ticket throughout that is composed of men who are strong and noble On tin Liberal ticket i seems to me there is but one name Scott Scott George M Scott On our ticket we find no candidate who cannot read and write the English language we have none there i ti r incapacited on that account to act on jury service ser-vice and there is no candidate on that ticket who has run a train on the road for illegal votes I have heard that that widespread malady the grippe had its origin in the wide domains of the JPpe orwn Czar and it is generally stated so to be I rather think this is a latft Is in Utah that we are troubled with and originated the grip I also saw that dreary procession referred to this evening they had the grip but in all cases it was empty I also saw It at the goasyouplease parade perched on a high pole and in this case it was also empty they have come invariably with the grip empty expecting to get it filled after election It appears that the Liberals will yet fall down and worship the carpet bag They have placed it in a supreme place above the glorious stars and stripes When an architect recently took exception to this mode degrading the national flag he was at once knocked down by a crowd of them fully in keeping with their general in telectual persuasion The speaker referred to the registrars and said there was not a spot on the broad land where such a body sits clothed in ministerial robes overriding the supremacy of the supreme court of America Helds band played a short lively selection selec-tion at the close of which Mr Penrose proposed three groans for the Liberal party which was done in a sympathetic hearty style HON JOHN W YOUNG was introduced as the friend of labor and the working man He was received with great cheers and said A man who can stand here and not be filled with enthusiasm is not friend to the prosperity of Utah The Peoples party 0has always marked its career with prosperity Look about you and see who have in this city marked it with stately handsome and costly edifices Who have put up the best houses They have until very recently been entirely erected by members of the Peoples party Appl ausel The Peoples party is1 characterized throughout through-out with loyalty to good government they have ruled In an honest conservative way which will not be duplicated by the Liberal party if they succeed in gaining power It will be to try and fill their grip I am afraid But they wont get there Cries of No After the election I am afraid the Liberals will be as a man in Texas of whom I once heard a story He was a strapping strap-ping large bully fellow and he starteddown the street endeavoring to run the town crying as he went I am the first best sonofa sea cook in all Texas AniusiRnlficantlookingpersonage was sitting on the fence as the bully came along hollo wing 1 am che first best sonofa seacook all Texas and he picked himself up ana lanaed the bully one under the ear which sent him off hollowing I am the second best sonofasea cook in all Texas I hope we may win as I feel assured we will whereby the poor man will be able to enjoy his property and the city continue to be a pleasant abode for the laboring man Great applause After an excellent air by the band Warden Dr Faust the friend of young Democracy was introduced and received with loud cheers He told a number num-ber of very pleasant anecdotes which would have to be related by the doctor himself to be fully appreciated The stories were well received and the comparisons compar-isons happily made Where Did You Get That Hat was finely played by the Sixteenth ward brass band when PROF J H PAULa PAUL-a representative of young Utah showed up the difference of the two tickets in the field in a happy logical style and disputed the claim with facts and figures that the Liberals so often boast of that they brought to this territory the first railway telegraph and telephone He showed from where the Liberals had reckoned on a thousand majority but they had been located by the detectives on the Rio Grande Western line and would not comeS come-S A KEXXER showed up the Liberal rule in Ogden and asked what else we could expect in Salt Lake if the same party gain the ascendancy hereHelds Helds band played The Star Spangled Banner when three prolonged and rousing rous-ing cheers were given for the Peoples ticket and the overflow meeting adjourned |
