Show The Sherman Elevator Case BUFFALO N Y Aug ISThe grain shortage case has taken a new turn On the complaint of one of the losers by the operations of Sherman Bros Co Mana gcr S F Sherman of the Associated elevator ele-vator and C C Loveridge his assistant were arrested lust night on the charge of grand larceny They remained in jail all night nh Sherman was jarraisned in the police court at noon pleaded not guilty waived examination and was remanded pending the procurement of bail Loveridge was not arraigned It was nearly noon when the case of Stephen Sherman was reached in the police I court Sherman was arraigned on tho charge grand larceny in the first degree in having stolen and converted t his own use 2237 9 bushels of wheat of the value of U9O from the Lake Shore Elevator company He pleaded not guilty and waived examination He was then arraigned ar-raigned on a charge of having sold and delivered de-livered to unknown parties 2270 bushels of wheat for which warehouse receipts had been issued a a depository and the warehouse ware-house man with cancelling such receipts A third and fourth charge pf a similar nature na-ture also was preferred To all the charges I the defendant pleeded not guilty and waive examination Ho was then formally I for-mally held to answer and committed to jail in default of bail From an official source it was learned that the total shortage at the different elevators ele-vators amounts to 5375000 the value of the elevator stock recovered is 800000 so that tue loss to be met by the elevator owners is 175000 L eridge was not arraigned but simply committed to jail for further examination as in his case Justice King can take bal when he is ready to furnish it |
