Show SIMPLY OBEY ORDERS t Catholics Have no Rights to Ask for Reasons BUT MUST DO AS THEY ABE BID By Their Ecclesiastical Superiors In Ollice Whom They are Expected Ex-pected to Obey f i S None of their liuslness NEW Yon January 20Tne Commercial Com-mercial Advertiser gives the following as the substance of a note sent last night by Archbishop Corrigan to the committee of St Stephens Parish in reply to a request for an audience in regard to the Mcplynn case The archbishop arch-bishop began his epistle which was I couched in very courtdlbus terms witb the remark that it was unusual for soldiers sol-diers to ask their generals the reasons for their orders It was the part of every subordinate ESPECIALJV IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH to obey the commands of his superiors The archbishop reminded the committee commit-tee that he too wds under an authority to whom he was accountable and whose orders he obeyed He says he has withheld from the public his reasons rea-sons and all information in regard to the removal of Dr McGlynn but owing ow-ing to the deep interest felt iajtheir pastor pas-tor he had determined on one condition to giye the parish owners of St Stephens Church through this committee the information they desire The condition is that the committee shall obtain from Dr McGlynn written consent that the reasons for his removal re-moval shall be made public The letter also conveyed the important information informa-tion that no new order had lately come from Rome PER I NE5TLY s SPE G DR TtfGLYNN SUSPENDING from his priestly office A telegram has been received by the archbishop on Tuesday from the propaganda instructing in-structing him to hasten Mc Glynns departure for Rome This had been the only recent communication com-munication in the matter from the Yal can and was the sole foundation for the report that Dr McGlynn had been unfrocked In connection with this order from the Papal tribunal the archbishop in his letter expressed a hope that the loyal members of St Stephens church will manifest their lovejor their pastor by assisting the archbishop in his efforts to secure Dr McGlynns early departure The committee com-mittee were not permitted to see Dr ilcGlynn but sent him a note and he promised to write and advise them what to do |
