Show THE POLITICAL FIELD Appointments and Arrangement Made and Making I THE WORK GOES BRAVELY ON Peoples Meetings In the Various Wards and the SpeakersThe Marching Clubs and Bands Last night the Thirteenth wardmcetlnghouse was crowded in the real sense of the word Not only were the benches in the hall packed but almost every inch of standing place was crowded the occasion being a mass meeting at the Scandinavian club Mr C J Oberg was the first speaker of the evening He gave the Liberal friends a warm clothing and brought down roars of laughter in the course of his speech A patriotic speech from Mr C F Olsen was also delivered and received In excellent spirit When he closed his remarks a beautiful banner was brought in and presented to the club by some young ladies who have labored earnestly to get the banner and one of whom made an address ad-dress of presentation At the moment the banner was pieced on the stand inflow in-flow of everybody amongst the stars and stripes and the colors from The North and the brass band rendering a musical selection the enthuslam and applauses from the vast assembly seemed to have no end And a line lltse db banner It wad brought forward as a sign of a good cause and doing credit indeed to the Scandinavian population of the city besides being be-ing the finest banner in the city To this end were the warmly uttered words of John Henry Smith Esq who took the stand In the course of his remarks he defined some of the aims of the Liberals on one hand and the aims of the Peoples Peo-ples party on the other The aims of the Liberals Liber-als in this territory are to blacken and bring de structlon upon the people of Utah In some other parts of the earth the word liberality may have a good meaning in the ears of tho peo ole but in this torrltnrv it manna hmorrisr and absolute rule no matter what the r consequences conse-quences may be Our aim is the maintenance I mainten-ance of every right and privilege of the human race as long as in accordance with justice jus-tice Freedom forever justice forever true liberality lib-erality braver are among our mottoes The address of Mr Smith caused rounds of applause ap-plause I Singing etc interspersed with the speeches and at the close of the meeting some brisk toasts were brought up As a whole it is evident evi-dent that the great majority of the Scandinavians Scandina-vians in Salt Lake city are doing an excellent work for the bringing about a glorious victory for the Peoples party in next February |
