Show A Brutal Mill LAWRENCE Mass January 15A remarkable re-markable prize fight was fought here last night in the presence of a small number of sporting people between Jack McAuliffe of Brooklyn champion lightweight of America and Harry Gilmour of Toronto lightweight champion of Canada They fought for HolKs International Diamond prize belt for lightweights and a purse of five hundred dollars In addition three thousand dollars was put up inside of the ring on bets Themen were in excellent ex-cellent condition and both scaled withn the limit of 133 pounds Twentyeight rounds were fought occupying one hour and fiftytwo minutes The fight was only finished by Gilmour fall ing senseles in the ring under the terrible blows inflicted by McAu liffe There was considerable heavy fighting up to the sixth round Mc Auliffe evidently coming out the better man From the sixth to the twenty fifth round the fortunes of the men varied and McAuliffes confidence was visibly increased In the twentyfifth round McAuliffe started in to finish Gilmour who had begun to show signs of weakness but the latter whoso face was puffed up badly fought with des Deration and continued to make a good light McAuliffe got the best ot the twentysixth round but Gilmour con tiaued to show game and it was not until the twenty seventh round that he began to give way McAaliffe rained blows upon him unmercifully In the twentyeighth round Gilmour was very groggy and McAuliffe struck him fully ten heavy blows in the face Gil mour finally falling senseles to the floor and was unable to respond when time was caled McAuliffe claimed the fight and it was awarded him Gilmour recovered and desired to continue the fight but was prevented by his backer ad referee He was frightfully punished and was put to bed with physicians and attendance upon him I |
