to mate the road just possible for the carts to get through occasionally occasion-ally through beautiful parks and splendid splen-did growth of timber tHen into bogs and jungle After a hard days work getting our animals and carts to about onefourth of a mile of our destination nothing daunted we promptly abandoned our curls and packing pack-ing our horses with cur effects again away we go over rocks and dead timber to our destination distance from the mill eight miles only Our guide returned happy in the thought that be alone was the discoverer of and pilot to this hidden treasure I afterwards christened Last Chance I groupof Lakes situated about thirty eight miles northwest from Ashley Valley Magnificent scenery surrounds the lakes The boys under excellent management manage-ment worked witb a will and in less than two days four lakes were tupped by three cuts so aj to drain one into the other thence with a sort of a realization reali-zation of hell broke loose duhed over and through the rocks on its clear winding way to Ashley On the third day another lake was discovered situated about one mile west from the Last Cbance group This was named Accidental it lies adjacent to one of the bold mountains which is partially covered with snow on the north side Tapping immediately commenced com-menced Oa the following day two more lakes were discovered which abound plentifully plenti-fully with mountain trout These were christened the Twin Fish Lakes These trout are eager for bait Will Green positively asserts that a nico large one jumped from ihe water to the bank inquest Willlivetodjht another day He stated that it occurred to him forcibly that self preservation was the first law of nature We since learn that a she bear and cub were killed Crons in the valley are more than average and have not yet suffered very much for water Heretofore we have had agood haying market at the military mili-tary post for our products and every producer was able to handle a little money aside from absolute expenses This season it is quite the reverse without any plausible l reason Instead of pooling and letting one or two do the bidding for furnishing what the military require re-quire half a dozen or more rushed in for contracts running everything down to almost starving prices the bay going in at a little above half what it went in for last year The producer may live so can a drunken man get sober but a fool never can recover Vernal the rival town of Ashley it seems is bent on having the county seatthe Utah Legislature to the contrary con-trary notwithstanding Most
