Show I CONVENTION AT PROVO The Candidates for the August Election The delegates ot the Peoples Party fron the different precincts of Utah County met in the Courthouse at 10 am to make nominations of county officers to be voted for and elected OD ronday August 6th A temporary organization or-ganization was effected by electing W H Dusenberry chairman and J C Graham secretary The delegates handed in their credentials cre-dentials to tho secretary On motion being made the organization was made permanent and Mr John Woodhous was elected assistant secretary and M P Madsen doorkeeper After prayer by the chaplain the roll was called by the secretary the following follow-ing delegates answering to their names viz A 0 Smoot Jr W H Brown J 1 B Keeler W H Dusenberry J S Page Jr Joseph 8 Douglass Samuel Marsh Levi 0 Openshaw George Web Israel Evans Jobn Wood nouse J B Stewart Hans Jns person A Engberg William Creer ft P Snell B Argyle A M Feiwr eon E Robinson J B Clark George Cunningham J Caffery E Lee JO Bullock E Richins M P Madson Jttrl Dcvey and A Noe After the call for the meeting wa road by the assistant secretary and the minutes of a previous meeting were read by the secretary on motion of A 0 Smoot Jr the convention proceeded pro-ceeded to make the nominations as follows For County Clerk V L Holliday For Selectman D Holdaway For Assessor and CollectorW H Brown For County AttorneyS R Thur man marFor Coroner John B Twelves For Recorder James E Daniels Fo Surveyor Ihomaa Davis For Treasurer A Glazier For SheriffThomas Fowler When the name of S R Thurman was placed iu nomination for County I Attorney A O Smoot Jr stated that he was in favor of Mr Taurman and had talked with him and Mr Tburmau ch sHed him to state tat ho had identi tit d himself with the Democratic club and was a Democrat in principle and pruposed to remain a Democrat and taat he did not Intend to sacrifice any principle for office nor wish to accept of the nomination with any other understanding I un-derstanding The vote for Thurman was unanimous For sheriff thero were two names paced in nomination that of Thomas Fowler of Lshi and J W Turner of this l city A committee of five wts appointed ap-pointed by the cuair to investigate and report at 2 pm at which time the convention reassembled and accepted the report of the committee in favor of the nominee Thomas Fowler W H Duseuberry was elected chairman chair-man of the central committee and J C Graham was reelected secretary PKOVO July 2318S3 B |
