Show THE PEOPLE ARE WISE The Republicans are trying hard to find in the Mills bill something through which they can successfully attack the Democrats whose Representatives in the House passed the bill The effort a vsin one The people have more good sense than the Republicans give them credit for possessing The people see in that bill proof that the Democracy Demo-cracy is devoted to the welfare of the nation that it is working for the good of the many and not for the advantage of the few at the expense of the masses that it desires equal benefits to all and special favors to none that it is striving striv-ing to reduca the cost of living to the poir the great majority of the papa la ion who are compelled to earn what they eat and wear by toil that the Democracy iJ eager to enlarge the market for American products and thus by inspiring aR increased demand for what this country produces increase the demand and necessarily the price for Am rican labor thit the Democrats wioey say that inasmuch as the government gov-ernment must have money with which to pay its necessary expenses that money should fce raised by putting a tax on luxuries which people ctn get along without rather than on ueco3sitie3 which thoy laust have in order to live The I people are not fools although the Republicans I Re-publicans would seem to regard them as such whim they try to lead them away from a party which has done so much and which is trying to do more for the masses The indications are that the voters will be wiSe when they come to thepolls They have glOoVn tired of being taxed and oppressed jn order that monopoly may thrive and men grow rich through protection and trusts What the peoplewant is r fair chance to live and they see that the Democrats are struggling hard to give them that chance |
