Show AT WASHINGTON SQUARE SQUAIm A Good Game of Baseball Spoiled by I too Adrupt Eliding There was some pretty ball playing don at Washington square yesterday in the game between the Famous old National club of this city and the Athletics of Ogden but the fun was all spoiled when at the end of their eighth inning the june ton boys dusted of their blue stockings picked up their caps and masks and made for the depot in mortal fear of missing the train The Famous had only seven turns at the bat and the score at the time of quitting stood 1 to 14 or at the end of tho seven innings each 1 to 9 in favor of the Salt Lake boys The batting on both sides was very heavy the ball being repeatedly lifted over the heads of the outfielders and once over the east fence striking in the middle of the street Of the Famous Griffiths the left fielder did the prettiest batting making two home runs and coming in twice beside McDonald the third baseman and Lloyd the catcher also made one home run each The heaviest inning for the home tam was the seventh when they made seven runs and had one left ou base Of the Ogden team Fancy Grcenwa and Ensign all did good batting and running run-ning getting in three runs each Brown and Greenwall were the battery for the athletes Brown was not very success fully batted by the home boys until well along in the game when they got onto him and lifted his balls sky high The Ogdens had the same difficulty in batting Busbys balls during the first seven innings in-nings but when they did tumble t his curve they had no trouble whatever in hitting hit-ting him every time The score bv innings was as follows Innings iaalsetse I 1 Famous 2OlO272 ° 14 Athletlesu 10200 I 3 3 3 14 There wasa very large attendance the grand stand containing many ladies as well as a large crowd of men and boys The two teams are wellmatched and if i the Ogden boys would make their train arrangements ar-rangements so that they could stay the game out a match between the Famous and Athletics would draw a big crowd every time |
