Show had by Authority jAN JAN J-AN ORDINANCE Licensing and Regulating Passenger Vehicles and Hotel Runners SECTION IBe it ordained by the City Council Coun-cil Salt Lake City That it shall be unlawful unlaw-ful for any person to run keep or use for hire for tne carrying or convening of persons per-sons any public hackney coach cab omni bu express wagon carriage wagonette or any public passenger vehicle of any description de-scription or name whatsoever using the streets of Salt Lake City for trade or traffic without a license first had and obtained so to do SEC 2 Applications for license under this ordinance shall be made in writing to the Mayor and the amount hereinafter provided pro-vided shall be paid In advance to the City fice ti Allilicenses fic i I f Treasurer All licenses shall be Issued and signed by the Mayor and attested by the City Recorder under the seal of the city The Recorder shall keep an alphabetical list of licenses issued stating the number name residence amount paid with such remarks as may be deemed necessary SEC 3Upon application being made yearly licenses may be issued thereon as follows First Upon a license to run an omni bus f 12500 SecondUpon a license to run a carriage car-riage express wagon cab coach hack or other passenger vehicle drawn oy two l more here 20 00 Third Upon a license to run a buggy cab express wagon or other vehicle drawn by one norse 15 CO FourthUpon license as hotel runner run-ner 5000 SEC 4The following localities are hereby established as stands for puol1c vehicles ve-hicles FirstOn the west side of First East Street between South Temple and First South Streets SecondOn the north side of Second South Street two rods west of East Temple Street Third On the west side of Third West Street twenty feet north of South Temple Street and on the north side of South em pie Street twenty feet west of ihird West Street FourthOn First South Street one rod east of Fourth West Street Fifth On Fifth West Street two rods south of Second oouth Street SixthThe centre of Second South Street between East Temple and First East Streets dEC 5No person following the employment employ-ment of hackman cabman ommibus driver coach driver or driver of allY passenger pas-senger vehicle shall while actually engaged In his employment as such at any railroad depot leave his hack omnibus coach or express wagon or other vehicle but snail remain within six feet of said coach hack omnibus express wagon or other vehicle while engaged in such employment at such railroad depot exceptit be to secure when requested the baggage of his passengers SEC GNo runner hackman omnibus driver expressman porter cabman or person per-son carrying passengers or soliciting for passenger vehicle shallinduce or attempt to induce any person to employ him to convey such person by either knowingly or wantonly wan-tonly misinforming or misleadiug such person per-son as to the time or place of the arrival or departure of any railroad train or other conveyance or the locution of any railroad depot oftice station or ticket office or the location of any hotel stage office public place or private residence within said city nor shall he practice any decei fraud or misrepresentation in any manner whatever relative to matters pertaining to his busi ness SEC 7 No person following the employment employ-ment of runner hackman omnibus driver expressman porter or driver of any passenger pas-senger vehicle shall enter into or upon any railroad car or aepot or upon any passage V Iirieod1 otz ft orlanding leading thereto while actually engaged in his employment as such Provided hoiccier That nothing herein shall prevent the persons herein named from entering in and upon any railroad car depot or passage leading thereto for the purpose of getting the baggage of any passenger pas-senger arriving at or departing from the city after having first obtained and exhibited ex-hibited to any policeman or person in charge of such railroad car depot passage orlanding the check or checks of such passenger for his baggage SEC 8 No runner hackman omnibus driver expressman porter or driver of any passenger vehicle shall at any time or place when waiting for or engaged in his employment obstruct any street or side w ilk make any unusual noise or disturbance disturb-ance unnecessarily snap or flourish his whip use any indecent profane or obscene language or be guilty of boisterous Or loud talking or any disorderly conduct or use any language or be guilty of any conduct calculated cal-culated to disturb the public puce or goad order of the city or harass vex annoy or disturb any person there beiug or passing SEC 9 It shall not be lawful for any licensed vehicle when not actually employed em-ployed to be kept standing in and other part of the public highways of the city than those designated and set apart as stands for public vehicles SEC 10 It shall not be lawful for any carriage car-riage hackney coach cab or any other passenger vehicle to be driven through any of the streets of Salt Lake City at a greater rate or speed than six miles an hour nor around the corner of any of tne streets of I said city at a gait that will endanger e destrians and all vehicles when passing I through or along any of the streets of said shall i city shall when meeting other vehicles be driven to the rlgnt hand side of the way so that said vehicles shall lass clear of each other SEc 11All public passenger vehicles licensea under this ordinance shall be numbered with plain figures painted thereon not less than one and a half inches long which shall always be kt pt conspicuously in view said numbers bhall be furnished by the City Recorder at the time of issuing the license tvery hotel runner while engaged in his employment shall wear an appropriate appro-priate badge with the name of the hotel represented re-presented by him inscribed thereon SEC 12 livery public vehicle for convey ance of passengers when driven or used in the ni ht time shall night have fixed upon some conspicuous part of the outside thereof two lighted lamps with plain gloss sides and have tbe number 01 such vehicle in plain legible figures upon each of the outer sides of said lamps in such a manner that the same may distinctly seen and every such vehicle which has a door or doors to the Fame shall have a knob or handle upon the inside of each door eY by which said door may be easilyopened from the Inside thereof SEC 13The maximum prices or rates of fare to be asked or demanded by any owner or driver of any ehicle for the carriage of passengers shall be as follows IFor conveying every passenger from one depot to another 50 cents 2Foi conveying one passenger not ex ceeding one mil fifty cents 3Each additional mile or part of mile twentyfive cents I 4 For conveying children between 5 and I i4 jears of rge no to exceed half the above price may be charged for like distances but for chil rn under 5 years of age no hare shall be made 5For use of any hack coach or other vehicle drawn by two horses by the day with one or more passengers eight dollars 6For i the use of any such carriage or vphicle by the hour with one or more pas senger with the privilege of going from placu to place and stopping as often as may be required two dollars for the first hour and for each additional hour or par ° f hour one dollar 7For the use of any hack cab or other vehicle T drawn by one horse or other ani mal by the hour for the first hour one dol lar each additional hour or part thereof seventy five cents by tne day five do Mara SEC HIn all cases when ths hiring of a hack coach or other public vehicle for the conveyance of passengers is not at the time of c the hirIng specified to be by the hour It shall be deemed to be by the
