| Show S bad dccident To theEditor of THE HERALD A sad accident occurred here on Tuesday November 8th in the drowning drown-ing of two small children one a little girl 5 years old Anna Eliza McKen drick daughterof Charles H and Mary E McKendrick the other a small b < y 4 years old Joseph Benton Powell son of John A and Sarah J Powell On November 3d these children went with their mothers down to the river to witness the baptizing of their cousin Robert Powell and other children On the 8th they along with Willie Powell went to the tie to play at baptizing Josie and Eliza took hold of hands and waded Out in the stream up to their waists whenthey ducked under Wil lie the child who remained outside waited for them to come up again The girl came tothe surface once and then disappeared when terrorstricken Willie ran to the house and told his mother that Josie and Eliza had gone wa v down in a deep hole The mothers of the two unfortunate children rushed frantically to the rivers brink only to find their beloved little ones cold and stiff in the arms of the grim monster Death The boy had been washed up on the beach about thirty yards below The girl went with the stream about fifty yarde when the braids of her hair caught on a snag and held her floating in the water The obsequies were held on Friday the llth when the little darlings were interred aide by side Yours truly C H VALENTINE PRICE EMERY Co Nov 13 87 |
